It's easy to ridicule things like pony lights and mood lighting but I personally wanted the more noteworthy features like heated/cooled seats and the big screen for navigation. It's just as acceptable to have a loaded sports car as it is to have a bare bones sports car. Either way it will depreciate significantly.

Actually, if it's coming off as ridicule, that's not my intent. We all have different priorities and things that we like. It's all good. And yes, cars depreciate like a rock regardless. :)

What do you mean by isn't very good lol? I can see not wanting a premium simply for finances or you just don't care for all the extras, it's all in what you want but you gotta give credit where it's due man lol. Standard touch screen, standard heated/cooled seats and not to mention the best vinyl leather I've ever seen/felt in a Ford. Door panels aren't plastic etc.
did you see all his posts in this thread? he's trying to justify the base is better to him, which is fine. in real life premium>base. nothing else to discuss. people wanna knock what they don't have. i had zero intention of getting a premium, all it took was seeing the base interior and that was settled. worth 4k, to me, absolutely..

these threads turn into pissing contests, get what you want or can afford, you need to sit in both cars and make a decision

Below is what I did for my ride and one that I want to take to track days! All of the performance for the price of a Camry.

From a major car mag:

"If it were our money, we’d skip just about every option, instead going for the $1595 Recaro seats, and the GT Performance Package, which is a bargain at $2495 given it includes six-piston Brembo front brakes, different chassis and stability control tuning, a Torsen rear differential with 3.73s, and web spoke wheels. We can live without some of the luxury and tech goodies, but those performance options aren’t to be missed."

There are some other parts they don't frequently list as well like a larger radiator (same one as in the GT350) that are important to me being in Texas - especially for track days. The extra performance parts far exceed the cost of the PP package.

If you're only going to keep the car 2-3 years, consider a low mileage pre-owned 2015. There's quite a few of them out there now and well optioned cars definitely depreciate faster than the base model cars => good deal if you want any of the options. I was shopping for GT Premium and there was almost no difference in asking price whether the car had 400a or 401a, 50 Years AP, etc.

I prefer to be "anonymous" and drive it without attracting attention and cops. Different strokes. I guess I'm just getting old. :)
You do know that cops don't see the "mood lighting" as you put it or the pony projector lights when you are driving? You are just as anonymous in a premium as you are in a base. Considering that you plan on supercharging your Mustang, how anonymous are you really going to be? Sounds to me like you plan on driving it like you stole it.:)
OP, to me it all depends on what the car will be used for. If it just going to be a weekend fun car, go with a base model. If you plan on using it as a DD, premium trim would be better.

I'm not trying to justify anything. I could have very easily gotten a fully loaded GT if I wanted to. I bought a fully loaded 15 MDX before so it was not a money thing.
I test drove both premium and base models many times. Premium interior isn't bad but it still feels really cheap to me.

Ha! I'm supercharging it mostly for something fun to do since I'm a gearhead. I haven't gotten a speeding ticket since before some of the people in this thread were born. :)

My goal is for it to look AND SOUND like a stock Mustang GT. I may even de-badge it or put the ecoboost trunk badge on just for grins. The intent is to have a sleeper.

Best,

No right or wrong answer. Buy wtf u care about :) I went Premium. I personally hate the feel of cloth seats. Can't stand it. It grabs at your clothes and pulls shit the wrong way.. I can never get comfortable in cloth seats. I found the price pretty realistic and fair. Premium PP with 401A and Nav for under $40k. For the type of car we are talking about, I don't think the interior looks or feels cheap by anyyyy means. Have I seen better?? Of coarse. But it's not a Mercedes. Its a Mustang. Considering the OP is only looking at keeping the car a couple years, I say get it as stripped down as you can. I wan't my Premium package because I plan to keep this car for quite a while. And I like all of the small luxuries you get with the Premium. Some of the Premium items I couldn't care less about. But since you have to buy every dam thing in "packages" with the Mustang.. what can ya do.

Besides what you like what are you going to use it for? We take ours on some decent highway trips 5-8 hours. So things like SiriusXM and heated cooled seats really are nice. If you are MOD king who is looking to get under 10 sec on the strip there is no reason to get premium. There are a few things like the toggles for handling that are better in premium also.

^This.

Having had a few ponies in the past, and gone 5 years w/o, I sat in more 6g 'stangs this past weekend than I'd care to count...mulling over EB, v6 or GT, base or premium, '15 or '16, etc...

Ultimately, the answers given in the thread are spot on. Tastes are variable, and dependent upon so many factors (climate, financial, performance vs. look, etc.) that most who post these types of threads are looking for validation of what they've already mostly pre-determined that they want.

That said, if you are on the fence about multiple different options and haven't landed on exactly what YOU'RE looking for out of your next 'stang, then it's absolutely best to shop the previous year's model w/ low mileage and optimal financing. 12-18 months in the ride should give you plenty of time to come to a consensus of what you want definitively in the next purchase, and when you're ready to trade it in, you should be in a great position to do so w/ mininum or zero negative equity (hopefully positive!) rolled into the new pony.

Best of luck in your decision!

These discussions only turn into pissing contest when people make it personal instead of just stating opinions and preferences.. kinda like what you just did.. Nice! :headbonk:

Agreed. No offense OP, but these discussions are pointless. You really need to determine what is specifically important to you, and the price range you would like to stay in. But most of all, you have to physically go sit in, and if possible drive, a base model and a Premium. That will allow you to personally determine what you value most, and least. I knew from pre-order date that I wanted a Premium PP. I don't think that choice was "better" than a base model. I just knew what I wanted and what I was cool with spending.

I'm one of the ones with the upgraded stereo (9-speaker, not 12 w/sub) and it's no great shakes. And it's harder to upgrade it than the base stereo, and I'm not talking about the head unit. Speakers are different impedances, different frequency ranges being fed to them from the amps, etc. I've heard from guys with the 12-speaker system as well and many of them aren't happy either.
