I understand it isn't a financial decision. I've spent way more on Mustangs and parts than ever made sense from a financial standpoint. It's your money to do whatever you choose with.

Ehhh, I know you were going after someone else with this post, but I also drive a basic GT. I'm not out there saying this is the greatest car ever or anything like that. It's a relatively inexpensive car with decent performance. I like it.

And I do have nationalistic beliefs. I'm proud of my country and prefer to buy American when I can. I will admit to that. But if I thought there was a competing Jap car that was heads and shoulders better than my GT, I would buy it. The closest is probably a WRX, but they are a little slower and more expensive than my 5.0.

I'd sure love to have 4WD on some winter days, though.
Yeah, you can't guilt trip me with being nationalistic when I am currently deployed, again, in support of operations. My point is the GT isn't even the highest level Mustang. It's not special. Doesn't mean you can't like it, its a good car, but it's not special. It is a basic entry level car and always has been.

Thanks for your service (speaking of guilt!). :)

I think your desire to win made you miss the mark on your second statement, though. The V6 is the entry level Mustang. I would say something like the Fiesta is an entry level Ford. The GT is up a few notches. But hey - I'm fine with your characterization. I'm cheap so I like thinking that I'm buying a reasonable car and not something too crazy special. It is funny though, when I park at work or the gym - I do like my car a lot more than 99% of the other cars I see.

Not too many people bragging about their minivans - even if they do say "sport" or GT on the back.

Mustangs are not entry level cars. Fiestas are. A GT base like mine is about average in new car price. Premium Perf. pack are more, well above average new car price. Base v6s are still more than "normal" inexpensive cars like a focus or corolla.

Mustangs are average-ish cars that punch well above their weight class in performance and looks, but sacrifice other things for it, like usable back seats, luxuries, and so on. There is no free lunch.

But its still not entry level.

Stay inside the class here. RWD performance cars. The Mustang GT is 100% entry level.

In that class, sure. The class itself is hardly entry level, however. It's the equivalent of saying entry level luxury car. Just by being in the class you've got a car worth looking at.

It's all subjective. I'm sure the upper class folks who drive Porches, Bentlys, Masseratis and other $100K+ cars would say the same thing about us if we revved our motors at them.

In the end, I give zero fornications about what other people drive or like. I purchase, modify and drive a car for me, not for them.

Changing the argument makes sense when you have lost. Wasn't the original point of the thread talking about Civics or some such?

And when has a thread ever stayed on topic? My posts had nothing to do with a Civic, just the "ricer" mentality people keep bringing up while having an over inflated view of their own car. Not sure how that is hard to follow...

I know you weren't advocating for Maseratis...but seriously those have to be the worst performance:dollar ratio cars on the planet. Hands down the worst performing "high-performance" car for the money.

Mustang GTs beat these things and have been for years.

I agree with you...unfortunately this isn't a phenomena exclusive to GT owners...

reminds me of the guys that say their car is "rare" because they have 1 of 50 cars made in 2012 with Blue paint, navigation, premium trim, and the graphics package...

I love those guys when looking through classifieds. They always think it raises the value of their car too.

It's not exclusive to any one car, every car community has them. I just find it annoying. CoBros are just as bad.

I am half tempted to add a fake turbo whistle to my exhaust, and put a turbo badge on the back, to be a parody of people who ruin good cars with shitty choices.

There's always a bigger fish. If not today, then tommorow. Mustangs are faster and look better than most of the crap on the road. Be proud of that. But don't get stuck up about it either. It's all a balance, my friend.

I wont lie, when I was in my teenager years I bought a turbo whistle. It did not work.
