Last September I was trying to get together a little cruise up Angeles Crest to enjoy our cars and being so close to such a historic road it feels almost like a travesty to go into winter without making a trip up.

Then the Bobcat fired happened and shut the whole mountain down, of course now it’s winter and there’s snow up there.

Now more determined than ever I want to get as many S550s up that hill as possible once the weather permits.

Who is with me?

Thinking perhaps the end of March beginning of April? What do you guys think?

Thought perhaps Newcomb's Ranch would be a good destination.

Definitely a great road to cruise! I haven't been back in over 2 years due to closures and weather. Count me in!

Was up at MT Wilson today and was surprised how beautiful it was up there.

Angeles Crest is surprising clear all the way up to RedBox Rd.

Redbox is still closed even tho signs at the bottom say “Road to Mt Wilson open”... RedBox has been closed since the beginning of last October due to the fire. There was a lot of ice and snow on Redbox ohhh and plenty of dumb asses playing in the street.... :headbang:

As you get closer to Redbox there was a lot more “gravel” in road.. I know it’s not gravel but I’m not sure what they sprinkle on the road up there..

never been. is the road well paved (no potholes, gravel, etc)?
The road itself is very well maintained. It literally has it’s own CalTrans unit that is constantly up keeping.

That being said..... This road is No Joke..

It’s a mountain, so weather changes quick, landslides, rocks roll down... a lot. Wildlife, I’ve seen bears and see deer all the time.
Your talking about a couple thousand feet in elevation change, switchbacks, hairpins, blind turns. ...It’s awesome.

Definitely somewhere you could get in trouble real quick...

But if your in the area I would highly recommend a trip up there just to check it out..

It really is amazing.

I wouldn’t take the Mustang up there right now tho.

Went back up to Mt Wilson today to finish up some work.
Another ridiculously beautiful day up there. I grabbed a couple more pictures.
One of them you can see some burnt brush, that is directly across the street from the 1st tower site when you are heading up RedBox. That site is referred to as Deer Park.
You can also see in one, a lot of the pink still from the Foschek remains in certain arenas.
I chatted with a CalTrans guy this morning, and asked what they spread on the road.
They refer to it as Lav-its. It is literally tiny little pebbles of lava rock. As you can see in the picture.
Saw a couple S550s on Angeles Crest... was super jealous cause of course I was in the lame work Traverse.

The floor is lava.
Sounds fun and have yet to do this, but don't wanna add scratches to the 500.

I completely understand and trust me I wouldn’t bring my lil old S550 up there if I was gonna get it scratched up.

I personally would be concerned to drive the 500 anywhere around SoCal, people are morons and least up there they are at a minimum.

I wouldn’t sell yourself short, I would definitely check it out one day.

Hell ya!
I have to work up at Mt Wilson on Tuesday, was thinking about driving the Mustang up there.
It has been really beautiful the last couple weeks up there, road is getting better, and they finally opened Redbox for the first time since the start of the BobCat fire.
