Doh... Why would I want oil blowby? Catch cans are a half assed solution

Just venting the engine to atmosphere isn't going to do the guts of the engine much good. Venting to atm isn't going to effectively get all the blow-by crud and moisture out of the guts of the engine.

It's illegal in the US to vent to atm (unless it's officially an off-road use only vehicle), so apparently not there?

Most older vehicles vent to atmosphere too. PCV systems are simply an EPA requirement during manufacturing. After purchase, if you don't get emissions inspections, it's not a big deal. Same as O/R pipes or deleting a diesel.

I don't run O/R setups on any of my vehicles for tone/exhaust volume reasons, but with no inspections I can pretty much do as is please. So long as it's not loud enough to disturb the peace.

^^^ To get the crap out of the engine, you need to flow fresh air through it. Just venting the crankcase with no flow through isn't doing it any good and leaves a lot of combustion blow-by and moisture inside the engine.

My impression is also that a catch can is a better solution than a breather, since the catch can maintains vacuum on the crank case and therefore helps evacuate the blow-by better.

It also doesn't affect emmissions, which can be beneficial depending on where you live.

The only negative I'm aware of is the need to empty the can now and then.
