Nice video, thank you.Yes sir, thePill is correct. At least to the extent that it came from the Cologne studio. I can't speak to the part about it being a rejected s550 design. Had not heard about that.
The Cologne studio, one of 8 Ford design studios worldwide, are the primary designers of the Evos concept. Of course part of OneFord is that these global teams work much more closely now so they had input from the entire design team.
You can see the Evos featured in this video from Ford showcasing the design studio.
Also notice how the grille here is different than the honeycomb one we saw in Frankfurt (below). Much more Fusion-like here.

So.... Until you see a super sexy, sports coupe with beautifully balanced hips and shoulders and the perfect Mustang face, rear and profile... All previous renders/concepts are null...Since Mays replaced Jack Telnack in 1997, he is responsible for the design direction of Ford Motor Company's eight brands (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar, and Aston Martin).

Yea, it's got to be. I would say the best design so far for Mays has been the Fusion, and I know the Fusion SELLS, but if Mays cares at all about leaving a legacy, he must know the best way to get a feature page in the history books at Ford is to totally nail it with the 50th anniversary Mustang. This is J's master piece and he is fully expecting "Best in Show" awards like his previous concepts.
He knows very well that these just won't do it...
More or less... Thanks for playing Asia/Europe/AU, but we got this...
I'll give his Aston Martin the #1 best design spot. Two totally different cars, but there is no competition there. The Aston DB9 is a complete win on all levels.Yea, it's got to be. Fusion has definitely been his crown jewel so far but can you imagine designing a winning Mustang design. We're talking about a muscle car icon compared to a mid-sized sedan. So I'm sure he knows how much legacy he could leave for himself with a successful Mustang. Luckily we'll be the beneficiaries of thatYea, it's got to be. He's had tons of winners already... concepts Shelby GR-1, Jag F-type, MKC, etc. All "stunning" cars if you ask me. I'm not sure he NEEDS the mustang, but that would definitely be his legend if he gets it right. At least in the minds of enthusiasts.Yea, it's got to be. I prefer the yellow Evos overall to the one they showed in Frankfurt. Much easier on the eyes IMO.Must say, I prefer the grille on the yellow Evos..................can easily imagine that with a 3-bar pony badge on the Cali Special ;)
Speaking of Moray Callum, Complex Rides interviewed him back in 2011 to ask about the design of the Evos concept. Link here. They asked him directly whether the Evos would influence the S550. He was vague on details as to be expected, but it's clear the Mustang will have at least "subliminal" cues from the Evos without being an outright clone. The relevant part:
Moray Callum led the charge on the EVOS and is currently attached to the S550 project so... Not to hard to figure out. Moray is the brother of Head Jag designer Ian and both idolize the Aston Martin (as any Brit does and should). Mays likely selected Moray due to his Jag and AM influence...
J's two favorite personal cars are the Boss 302 and DB9 (or Vantage, I can't remember)... and I will just put this out there and hopefully you get the idea...
BTW, you can tell how closely these studios work together. I wouldn't put too much into the fact that a design comes from the Europe or U.S. studios. They don't work completely independent of one another and they are in good hands with people like Mays and Callum overseeing the efforts.Complex: The Evos is also a very sporty design. We've heard that the next Mustang will be a much more modern design. Do you see the Evos relating to the next Mustang?
MC: The next Mustang will be more modern but it will still primarily be a Mustang. While we are moving to a global design language the Mustang is so iconic that we don't want to move it away from its roots.
Complex: Actually, one of the first Fords I thought of when I first saw the Evos was the Mustang Fastback.
MC: We actually got a lot of comments likening this car to the Mustang. We're designing a Ford so the Mustang is surely on our minds. It must be a subliminal thing.
Complex: Will there still be a live rear axle or will that be more modern as well?
MC: I can't tell you that.
I'm sure that isnt talking about ALL passenger cars. The mustang has to be an exception to this since all the others don't need to look very "American" designed. Mustang is as 'Merica as a pick up truck round these here parts. That said, the Cologne studio has and will continue to be spearheading most of the designs for Ford's passenger cars, while the American design studios focus more on trucks and SUV's, for obvious reasons. So it would make sense that a lot of the global vehicles share some cues.
