Same old same old.

Wish we'd see something that carries the car forward instead of continuously tacking too much of the 60's back on.
This. 100%. I'm 33, not 83.

That's the challenge of a 50 year old classic. I don't think you will ever see them totally stray from some of the original design themes.

I think it is precisely why the car is so popular worldwide. If it looked like every modern car it wouldn't be nearly as popular.

The Camaro is arguably a better track car but isn't nearly as popular. I think a huge part is because of the looks of the car (sterile).

As a designer you never want to do any of the following:

Dilute your product or brand
Alienate your clientele/customers

Several car brands have done that (Honda/Acura, BMW, Subaru and many others) and sales, profits and market share suffers.

I'm 35 and I bought my Stang because it is what it is. I love the long hood, short rear deck and a V8 with 6 gears. That is the formula and it's made Ford one of the greats. No other company has competed internationally on the track and on the sales floor like Ford. They also didn't take US gov't funds and never had a pause in product production like it's direct competitor.

I say stick with what works and just keep evolving.

i was thinking about this the other day with the Camaro specifically.

1st gen was unique
2nd gen was unique
3rd gen was clearly pulling design style from the 2nd gen
4th gen was clearly pulling design style from the 3rd gen
5th gen was clearly pulling from the 1st gen
6th gen still clearly pulling from the first gen because they aren't brave enough to move from that look.

mustang is kinda the same. had unique DNA in the 3rd and 4th gens (despite basically the same underpinnings - it had a unique look), and the 5th was clearly at early 1st gen.

6th has a good mix of stuff that's mostly late 1st gen and then cues that are actually on the modern side, pulling from the 4th generation, but nobody noticed because the DNA is still rife with 1st generation lines. But really, they are a defining thing for a sports car/pony car in general.

i like the fact that with each new evolution, they can pull more and more from the past for future looks.

If you put a 6th gen right next to a New Edge, it's CLEAR they are siblings. less so when you put a 6th gen next to a 1st gen, in fact.

I just would like to see them be brave enough to use what they have and evolve without running back to 1965-1972 for inspiration.

I love the design sketches, but I know what the rest of the Rocket looks like, and don't like that car at all: the standard Mustang - in every trim - looks better than the Rocket, in my opinion. That said, the Rocket looks best to me from behind...

I'm usually all for future renderings, but these do seem to be very much repeats of what we saw before the S550. Maybe I'm just too happy with what we have now to look forward? With that said I prefer a somewhat evolutionary approach going forward anyway.

I really like what he did with the Dodge by the way.
