Reaching out to the guys with Air Ride....

Got packages in yesterday to start the 3P install. Read through all directions and went through wheel well layout. I have the dual 444's and wanted to mount sideways with isolator kits, but VIAIR says the isolator kits won't work with the compressors mounted sideways???? How the heck do you mount these in the well then? I've seen Comp05.slow and Project Whitemares setups but haven't got a clue how they mounted them. Help???? Can you move the brackets on the Compressor sideways, then mount the isolators?

My cousin uses the spare tire well of his car as the air tank. :) Hint.

I mounted all my components, less the tank, in the spare well and upright on the isolators. Left room to add another compressor over the winter. They fit just fine in there; I have seen the compressors mounted sideways, though.

Well, after looking at more pics and talking to VIAIR, I was able to get the compressors on the isolator kits--sideways. I removed the mounting bases (the ones with the small allen head screws that come with the compressor) turned the compressors on their sides, oriented for my set up, and then reattached the bases to the compressor. Only issue IS... you have to trim about 1/8" off of the ear of the mounting bracket to get it to fit back on the compressor body. Only one ear needs to be trimmed(the one that goes closest to the compressor fins).

You also need to be aware that the small allen screw positions need to be switched, because there are two sizes. Long and short. Longer one is used with the bracket. No bracket=shorter screw.

Then I attached the hardware from the isolator kits to the bases....and voila!

Everything worked out well. I'll try to post pics.

Terminated, what size compressor is that? In an upright position, with isolator kits, my compressors were 2-3" higher than the carpeted wheel well cover????

Like how you routed the leader line to the tank, from the Compressor. How long is that line and where did you purchase it?

It's the Viar 380. Worked perfectly for standing upright in the spare well. I think the 444 is bigger though, so that's probably the difference.

Guess I should've done more research and gone with twin 380's. There's just so many different ways to set it all up that there's really no guidance when purchasing the systems. VIAIR rep said mounting sideways won't hurt the Compressor, but the manual states that it may shorten the life of it because of the weight on the piston and seals. Oh well! We shall see.

I freaked out!:frusty:

Got everything mounted, and hooked up just the lines in the trunk,(Suspension component air lines and power not done yet). Thought I'd check my work before proceeding. Did a leak test, with no power, just to compressors, tank and manifold, and had a 14 psi leak in 30 minutes. Called Air Lift and the Tech said that there's a Compressor check valve that closes when first powered up. Since I haven't run power yet, the trunk system was leaking back through the compressor check valves. So I guess I'll proceed with running the lines and power.
