Aftermarket upgrades?

So your getting a 2015 mustang. When will you start adding bolt ons or other upgrades? What types and brands are you guys going with? And is there bolt ons that you can do that will not void the warranty? Or is it just better to wait till the warranty is over and then go crazy with it.

Intake and exhaust wont void your warranty. headers on the other hand might depends on ur dealer and anything that causes you to have to go into the motor and tuning if not done by ford

I had a Bama tune on my 2011 and the dealer never batted an eye when I brought it in for service. I thought they might erase the tune and put it back to factory specs but they didn't. I told the service manager it had a tune as well. So I would argue that a tune will not void warranty if it is from a reputable company. My service dealer was also a Rousch dealer and very accustomed to performance Fords.

Just because your particular dealer has chosen to ignore your tune definitely is not any confirmation that your warranty is not technically void by having it. They just chose to look the other way. Nobody should count on getting the same treatment elsewhere.

Would like to see how long it would have taken them to red flag your tune if you had brought it in with major engine issues...

I tuned my 09 V6 and my 2011 GT/CS without any issues. When I get a 2015 I'll tune it as well. There are thousands of Mustang both in and out of warranty that are running tunes. Any problems are a small risk that I have not problem taking.

Are you sure regarding intake and exhaust? Like is it explicit in the warranty, or just most dealers will look the other way?

Personally if I get a 2015, it will be:

• Coil-overs
• FRPP Short Shifter
• Axle-Back Exhaust
• Intake
• Tune

Wheels / Tires, Supercharger later on potentially

Probably should email Ford Service to get some clarification - before you purchase - "in writing", they might have a policy on this, however they would probably want this kept as a gray area (to give them flexibility), and would not be specific.

Likely axel back/side exhaust. Beyond that, I'll have to see what the car brings to the table and what it, "needs."

Understanding and accepting the risk is obviously different than your original statement: "So I would argue that a tune will not void warranty if it is from a reputable company."

I just didn't want anyone here being misled into thinking that there are no warranty implications to having a 3rd party tune your car, as there clearly are.

Yes, there are certainly a lot of people running aftermarket tunes, with mixed success. Some of it was learned through trial and error when the Coyote first came out. I'd say that most of the tuners have it nailed now, but I don't think it was that way at first. I personally would not be interested in being a guinea pig on this new model, considering the changes to the motor and possible question marks regarding potential differences in the computer itself.

I also recall reading here that the engineers working on the tune for this model said that they don't plan on leaving much HP on the table. I'll definitely be taking wait and see approach...

Ford racing offers a performance kit for 11-14 coyotes that includes air filter, oil filter, mufflers and a tune. They declare on their page that the package is eligible for limited warranty when installed by a Ford or Lincoln Dealer. So I would still argue that there exist tunes that will not void a warranty.

Yes, I'm well aware of Ford's offering, but that's not really what we were talking about here is it? You were obviously referring to 3rd party tuners, such as Bama, who was used in your specific example when you made the statement about tunes from 'reputable' tuners not voiding your warranty.

Yes, you can get a Ford tune that will not void your warranty, but even with that you have to be sure it gets installed by an authorized Ford dealer. Other tunes, regardless of how 'reputable' they are in the Mustang scene, will potentially void your warranty.

Again, it does boil down to willingness to take a risk. It just needs to be clear to everyone that there IS a risk, that's all.

My thoughts exactly. Talking about getting coilovers already, without having any real-world performance results based on the stock suspension seems like a major leap. By all indications thus far, this new model will handle phenomenally. As has been pointed out before, Ford have already said the GT will out-handle the current Boss. This thing is going to have some serious handling chops right from the factory.
