Hmmm.. I've had the same setup for quite a few months now. Steeda CAI with restrictor and no tune. I did not notice anything with the AFR but now that you're pointing this out, I'll have to check it. I'll run out at lunch and have a look at mine.

That bulge looks about like mine and it's caused from the small ridge on the outer lip of the black composite elbow being about 4.626+" OD while the sleeve ID is only 4.5". It's the fit of the other end of that sleeve on the aluminum where I had the big gap since the aluminum is actually necked down there about 1/16" for a width of about .625". Why, I have no clue. That means your trying to seal the aluminum tube of approximately 4.1875" OD with a sleeve that is 4.5" ID.
If you hit 'OK' again while on that AFR digital display you will get the analog version of the AFR and you can see it bouncing around. That's just what mine does. Before the install I had that analog AFR gauge display up and was monitoring it for several weeks. I'm pretty sure it did not bounce around to this degree with the OEM air intake as it does now.

When you say bounce, what range did you observe? I use the readout over the gauge mode to see the range a little more accurately (and for recording it).

Spoke with Steeda (Rod?) again today about this loose fitment of the sleeve onto the air filter snout and if that could be the cause of the AFR variations. He informed me that the sleeve should tighten down without leaks and if a leak were to occur, my Check Engine light would come on. He has had several inquiries about the loose fitment of this sleeve but assured me that it has not presented any problems when tightened properly.

Based on this I'm going to leave the CAI installed but continue to monitor it. Thanks to all who have contributed to educating me on this.

I finally got around to checking mine. With the same exact setup, my AFR acts EXACTLY like yours does. Very slight "bouncing" between about 13.9 - 14.1 with rare, brief visits to 13.8 and 14.2.

Sounds like this is normal from what everyone has said.

Unfortunately, I never paid attention to the AFR before the intake so I don't have a good comparison either but so far everything's been running fine.

As for the install, I too had some issues getting everything aligned but took my time and adjusted each component little by little before fully tightening everything down. I still think getting that damn weatherstripping on the filter compartment box was the worst 10 minutes of my life tho!

For the record, my car is bone stock minus a catback. Checked my AFR at idle yesterday and it bounces between 13.9-14.2.
