Oh man...That sucks!! I haven’t watched the weather to see what’s coming my way... not looking forward to it though. Very true! The only thing she’s covered in is a car cover..lol

I know this an old thread hoss but I’d like to know something.. I already got the mycolor function on my stang however I’d like to install another led right into the door storage compartment the same way you did it, and will buy the same wire you bought.
So my question is would it be a plug and play for me since I already have the mycolor option or would need cut wires etc.. sure I’ll drill a glory hole into my door panel 😅 but not willing to cut wires and stuff. The wire you bought has two leds right? The way I see it is to replace the factory wire with it, and use the second led on the door storage compartment.

So short answer, it’s not plug and play. You will have to tap into the existing wires in the door near the door handle. Buy some T-Tap connectors which are very easy to use and self-explanatory once you see them.

If you buy the appropriate plug male and female, you can make a plug-and-play solution from it.

I paid $82.45 total. I purchased lights for a Ford Escape and they worked out great. I already had wire, etc. I tapped into the existing mycolor harness in the door, drilled a hole for the light underneath the door handle and glued it in place. You wouldn’t know it wasn’t like that from the factory.

I have just added the footwell LEDs to illuminate the storage compartment in the door cards

I bought these lights - the wiring is a little more thinner would these work without the wires burning?

The wires should only burn, if the engineer who designed it is not a total idiot.
The cross-section will be dimensioned according to the electrical consumer.
Mechanical resistance could be more of a problem, but that can be solved with electrician's tape.

Is it worth taking the risk? I've tried to find OEM additional lights but - too expensive and hard to find.

There is no risk, LEDs like this have a very low current, maybe a hair thin string of copper is thick enough for this.
