ADD Memory seats??

Hey all, I recently picked up a 17 with the convenience package. I thought it was interesting that it has full power, heated, cooled seats, but NO memory function. While I am the only main driver of the car, if my wife (or valet) ever drives it, it would take me forever to get the seat just right again. ALSO, since the side mirror does not go down when you put the car in reverse, my friend who just got a loaded '17 GT track package convertible had a good idea and uses the seat memory buttons for that! He has driver 1 as normal, and driver 2 with the seat in the same position and the right side mirror dipped down to look at the curb while parallel parking, very handy to just press a button, park, and then press the other one and be back to normal.

So, obviously there are parts from the GT premium that would physically fit for the memory seat buttons, but does anyone know if our cars are missing a memory module, or wiring? would the PCM recognize it if I just lugged the memory switches in do you think? I don't see where anyone has tried this on a 350

My '15 GT 50th didn't have it either... Kinda odd and you'd think the GT350 would have it but being that I'm the only one pretty much that will drive it aside from my wife maybe once, it's not a big deal for me.

I'm annoyed it doesn't have these features too. One of the things I miss about the M3 are the creature comforts--mirrors aimed down in reverse and folded in park. The seats, mirrors, drive mode settings/preferences, radio settings, A/C settings all had memory and tied themselves to the key fob.

For the price point, this car should have it, or at least have the same features on the GT.

They would only had minimal, really negligible, weight. But, by leaving them off they increase their profit margin. I'm sure they were convinced their "target market" would just say stuff like, "a performance car doesn't need them blah blah blah" so they decided to leave the features off and pad the bottom line. A little disappointing. If the Tech pack can't be tracked or really driven hard on a hot summer day on the freeway without going into limp mode, it should at least have all the "tech features" that the "premium GT" has...

some would argue that the new BMW M cars are so focused on the items you mention that they actually forgot about what it means to be a performance car.

I'm not sure how the memory seats work. Is the memory position controlled locally by the seat itself (in that case, the seat electronics are different and those would need replacement) or is it controlled by the BCM (or the like)?

Either way, I'm betting the seat doesn't have the required sensors to know what position it's at. Once you solve that, like adding the diff cooler to a Tech pack car, the problem mostly is that you're going to find the required wiring is not there and possibly the connection to where the right harness would connect to the main harness would be different.

I think this is actually more complicated than it sounds but at the heart of it wouldn't be much different than what you have to overcome to install the diff cooler. Sensors, hardware and wiring.

You do realize that the M3 starts at $64,000, and the M4 starts at $66,200, while a well-equipped GT Premium goes for $25,000 less than that, right?

They have to make sacrifices somewhere...

ETA: You should be more annoyed that the memory seats requires an $1800 package that includes BLIS and extra speakers, rather than it simply being a $100 option.

Anytime you wonder why this car doesn't have X or Y, go to your car and pop open the hood and look at the engine and you'll get your answer. If that doesn't do it, turn on the engine and rev it a few times in sport mode. All will be well in the world.

I agree to some extent, or at least they've moved away from what originally made an M Car--at least when they moved to forced induction. That said, the performance numbers are definitely still what an M Car should be.

You saying an M3/M4 is $25,000 more then the GT Premium doesn't really make your point--the cheaper GT already has these items and is $25,000 cheaper. So, why couldn't Ford have used the parts that are already on the shelf and known to work in this platform and just priced them into the tech package--would've made more sense. Just seems odd that a premium GT has options that a GT350 w/ the techpage doesn't.

Good point on a la carte options! That's the thing the Germans do that the Americans and Japanese don't. Frankly, the fact that the 2015/16s forced people to decide between two packages instead of being able to have both or chose items from each package a la carte is what has led to most of the frustrations with limp mode from the tech pack owners.

The engine is phenominal! Nobody in any of the threads like this has said anything negative about it. That said, the engine (V8 that revved to 8700, albeit much smaller in displacement), the DCT and steering feel in the E92 M Cars were great too...

The only thing about these forums is when someone posts a constructive comment on the car, people get bent out of shape as if we're insulting the car. I love my car, if I didn't I'd be looking to sell it. It's a great car, but there are a few things Ford could've done better on it.

Hell I was surprised last night when I drove mine for the first time that the Recaro's don't even have power!!! I mean it doesn't matter since I'll be the only one driving it but it kinda took me back to the '90s :lol: They are pretty comfortable to me at least. I'm 5' 7" 142lbs with my side arm on

In the Ford parts catalog it shows the body harness is different. There is the control module in the panel left of the dead pedal that control the power on the GT350. The other half of the hardness goes up the right side to just behind the oil gauges on the dash center thats the heated and cooling controller. Not sure where the GT's memory seat controller is located but it doesn't seem the Shelby hardness can support it. If your lucky it may be build under the seat in that case you can order a GT seat hardness that will have the hookup. You would need a GT seat to confirm.

I know bc I was going to swap my tech pack seats to track and the guy trading wanted all the power hookup and full function of the tech pack seats in his track pack. Needless to say I spent the 6k and bought track pack seats off eBay rather than mess with all that pioneering a patch into the unknown.
