Tonight at the drag strip I got to try out my new Auto 3.55 gear Mustang for the first time .. What I found is it runs the same ETs in drive as it does S mode ..Keep in mind this is a base GT .. In drive the shifts were soft but shifted right at 6500 every gear ...Put the shifter in S and it shifted harder but it would short shift the 1 to 2 shift at about 5500 but the rest of the gears would shift at 6500 .. I never touched or tried the levers on the steering wheel ... Seems strange to me that it would short shift in S and not do it in drive .. This was at our 1/8 mile track and the car was dead hooking every run ... All the 60 foots were the same 1.93 ..7 runs all 8.32 .. The MPH was 86 in drive and in S mode the were 87 MPH..

The car is 100% stock ..No tune , no nothing ...300 miles on the car and I believe the dealer put 87 in the tank when I picked it up last week ..For the DA being 2200 feet I think the car did very well ..I just don't understand why it would shift early in S mode ?

The other thing I noticed the car was very lazy coming out of the hole but I'm thinking it's just the stock tune causing that .. It would hit real hard right at 4k but below that it was pretty soft .. I wonder if a Peddle Max would fix that or would it take a tune to fix that ?

A tune clears up a lot of what you are feeling/talking about. Question, did you have your traction control off? If not that could be contributing towards that lazy feeling. Also your shift points are really low, even untuned mine would hit 6800 in first and 72xx in 2 forward. Also, it's pretty common to see same times in the 1/4 or 1/8th in both drive and S. From my experience WOT performance stock or tuned is the same. S just changes throttle response sensitivity and shift points not HP or TQ numbers.

Sounds to me like your traction control got in the way, your car is still super new and needs a little more breaking in before it hits the track and 87 isn't helping you at all.

I had the adv trac and trac control off ..Next trip I will have all the Dealer Gas out of the car and 93 in place , It may be pulling timing down low because of the 87 gas .. I'm going to wait on the tune for a bit , its been back twice to the dealer and only had it 2 weeks ..Needs to go back again because when it rains the trunk fills up with water ...:frusty:

I had made a few runs on the street the night before the track ..I did one in S and Drive and it seems to shift at a higher RPM in S than it did at the track .. It was really hard to tell what was happening on the street because it was spinning in first and when it would go into second it would get sideways real quick ..

Just to let you know, I finally started to notice a difference in break-in on the engine at 7500 miles. The car is more aggressive since then.

I went back to the track tonight ...Added some 93 octane pump gas and it ran much better ... 8.19 @ 88 in the eighth mile ... I love this Auto ... It should run even better when I get a tune ...

8.19 sounds pretty strong for dead stock, something like a 12.8 maybe. You are doing fine.
