In the midst of continued angst re Voodoo failures and questionable lithium battery life, a reminder that today is Memorial Day. More than just another holiday weekend to sell cars...

I called some of my Viet Nam buddies today and also want to thank those of you who served in more recent wars. I was just an enlisted junior NCO in that war, and still remember the sad state of the country we returned to then

Two and a half years ago, we spent a day in Normandy beaches where two of my parents cousins fell during that campaign. I wanted to pay my respects that day, to me it is sacred ground. That day they had a small ceremony honoring those of us who served in conflict. But as I told the program organizer,
I did not feel I did anything compared to those who are buried there. I couldn’t find my relatives graves, so many fell during that campaign.

I showed my wife how what those men faced as
They landed and how some of the preserved German fortifications were
Placed as to offer overlapping fields of fire...

Thank you. Did you come home when you could buy a new 1970 GT 500?

Thanks for sharing the reminder and the experiences.

We probably all have our own unique way of commemorating.

I always think of this day as a time to pause and remember those who didn't return home; at least not alive.

11 Nov, on the otherhand, is the day I salute all who served honorably, past and present.

Great Post and I appreciate everyone’s service but today is for those who never made it back. I was active duty for 20 years in the Air Force 1995-2015. I have way to many brothers who took thier last breath in the Middle East. I wear a bracelet everyday in rememberance of two of them

Everyday should include a prayer for all those who serve us and provide us the freedom and protection which we all too often take for granted. A day to honor twice a year isn’t nearly enough.

Nope, bought a lightly used ‘69 Vette bass engine 4 speed ragtop. Couldn’t afford insurance for the LT-1 or big blocks, so modded the hell out of the car. Bought it for $4,400 bucks!

I was to young growing up in the Bronx during the Vietnam war .........

but I did serve as an altar boy at some of my parish’s funerals

and seeing the American Flag draped over the coffins, at the time

not really realizing what was going on, and the reason why ...........

even though we were told about the war at school by the nuns and priests

and seeing on TV the news footage while my parents watched Walter Cronkite on

the 6 o’clock news .........

Most of my friends had older brothers that were over in Nam

But as a kid, you don’t really understand it

Would like to wish all you guys ......... appreciate what you did and

“God Bless and Thank You for your Service to our Country”

Man, thanks for the post. I’m on orders as we speak and had to leave my sweet R today. I have what I have due to the many that fell before me... and by the grace of the Good Lord above! I love my wings, and wouldn’t trade hem for anything!

Just stumbled onto this thread.
Mom was a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), grandpa was in WWI (82nd Inf), dad was in WWII (2nd Inf) and my brothers were in the Korean and Vietnam wars. My oldest brother (Marine Corp Korean War Veteran) lost the fight on May 24th to cancer. I reflect on veterans past and present quite a bit. It's nice to have a special day set aside (federal holiday) for remembrance and honor of our veterans.

I played music at 2 Memorial Day parades and wreath laying ceremonies. It helps me remember the sacrifices of others.
