93 octane to 87

I've been using nothing but 87 in my GT. I ran a tank of 93 to see what it was like. It had a little more pep but wasn't worth the extra $$ for day to day driving.

One of many benefits we have over the LS3 motors... we can be cheapos on the gas. :D

I honestly didn't even know we could run 87 in our cars.. haha. My last car was 93 only and I got into a habit of getting premium gas, and my GT hasn't seen anything but premium. I may consider running 87 when I'm driving long distances

40k car can't pay the extra 5 bucks per tank?
With 11:1 compression, I don't want to risk relying on knock sensors to mess with timing and shit. Also I prefer not having ethanol in my gas. Premium is all I use.
Also do your math. Cost of running is dollar per mile that counts, not dollar per gallon. If you are burning more because of inefficient burn, you might end up spending more on cheaper gas.

You are better offer on long drives using 93 as it burns slower.

Well, I know the car can be run on 87, 89, and 93. And you get different horse power figures, I am just wondering if the sudden switch will mess anything up, like if it has to re-calibrate or anything.
The difference in HP hit is 1% between 93 to 87. You'll never notice it and NO you will not mess up anything. The car is designed to run on 87. It's even in the manual that fuel type is 87 for the Coyote.

Cost difference between 87 and 91/93 is like $0.25/gal. On a full tank of gas you'll be saving $4. That ain't shit

1.90 here in NOVA for 87 Oct.
2.47 here in NOVA for 93 Oct.

That's .57 cents difference.

That's an $8.55 difference in filling up with 87 vs 93 for 1% extra HP and no additional benefits. Around $450 a year.

on a stock NA GT, you will not see any performance issues.

Different story on a boosted car.

That being said, I run premium in my cars where I can, but dont think twice about it if 93 is not an option.

IMO, using top tier gas is more important than what octane for a modern car that can run any octane...

Yes it's designed to run on 87 in the sense you can put cheap tires on the car either.
Like I said, it's a high compression engine and it will start to knock when you use 87 but the knock sensor will catch it and detune the timing and cam position to protect the engine. You will lose 5-10% horsepower not 1%.

Wrong. 87 is recommended for the ecoboost and the v6. The manual says the minimum you should put in the coyote is 87. Not really a sterling recommendation. More of "if you really have to, you can". The motor runs better and gets better gas mileage on premium. Nothing but 93 and top tier went in my 12 and that's all that will go in my 15.
