Have a 2015 Mustang GT 6speed looking to swap to 3.73 gears. I know I'll need said gears along with installation gear. Apperantly I need to buy the whipple flare tool just to recalibrate my speedometer? Is there anything else I'll need? Do I need to send out the strategy to be reprogrammed? I'm getting a lot of different answer. I had a local shop which is 2 hours away and they quoted me 1800 for install and parts which is ridiculous. Any help is appreciated

I'm doing the opposite swap. Has anyone done a gear change without buying a flare tool. Costs more then the ring and pinion!

Its almost cheaper and easier to find someone local to swap the entire carrier with. Typically you can find a PP car with FI wanting to get rid of the 3.73 (exactly what I did) and I think the only thing Whipple requires in your VIN to generate your file to open in the flare software

Its still the only device/tool that can change parameters in the BCM.

I'd swap mine out but I'm located in Fort Worth.

A Ford dealership should be able to do it for 1/3-1/2 the price of the flare tool.

Although Ford IDS does have programmable parameters for axle ratio and tire size, they are only there to restore the configuration back to the factory parameters, which are stored in the VID block.

If you change the programmable parameters for the gear ratio, not only will it not correct the speedometer, but it will set DTC P1635 for VID block mismatch. The only way to actually recalibrate the speedometer is with an aftermarket tuning device, which of course brings warranty issues into the equation.
