My 2016 Mustang GT (non-PP, stock 18" wheels) came with the following tires when I bought it from "Mint" Auto Sales in Orlando, Florida:

Front: New-ish Dunlop Conquest Sport A/S, 235/50/R18
Rear: Very worn Federal Super Steel 595, 255/45/ZR18

Last winter here in NE Wisconsin, I did drive it when it wasn't snowing and plan on doing the same next winter. Otherwise, my F150 is it. The worn rear tires made it quite interesting to drive.

I was hoping to make it until fall before replacing all four tires with a properly matched set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06+ sized 255/45/ZR18. I have these tires on another car and like them okay. However, a few days ago, the right rear tire picked up a nail and now has a leak of about 12 PSI per day. Since this tire is already worn out, I'm not going to bother taking the risk of patching it.

The specs for the 255/45/ZR18 Continental tires say they fit a rim width of 8-9.5" and I believe the stock 18" wheels I have are 8". Tire diameter is close with 27" for the 235/50/18 and 27.3" for the 255/45/18. Revolutions per mile is close too with 762 for the 235/50/18 and 768 for the 255/45/18. I think any difference this causes in indicated speed should be trivial.

The car does not do track days, just regular, sometimes spirited driving.

Anyone have any reasons I should stick with 235/50/18 instead of getting the 255/50/18 tires?

255 size tire is a bit much for a 8" wheel though it would probably work. You might have sluggish steering response albet a bit higher grip. My stock wheels that came with 255s had 8.5" wheels.

Ford shouldn't even offer an 8" wide wheel and 235s, smh. Thats not enough tire for such a powerful and fairly heavy car.

I'll gift you a brand new pair of Ventus 2 tires and new 18x9.5 (?) wheels.

Just drive on down.

Is the tire "square" to the wheel or does the sidewall look like it's angling toward the outside of the wheel on both sides? If it's square (sidewall straight down vertically) then it should be ok. I was thinking of doing the same to mine to get rid of these horrible Pirellis but guys have said it wouldn't make much difference.
