I have not seen an open rail car in decades. They went to the enclosed ones for theft and hobo prevention a long time ago.
The overhead shots on Google Earth of FRAP show all enclosed types in the rail yard.
Yes, when open rail cars were still widely used many years ago vehicles would arrive at their destination with everything from missing hubcaps, hood ornaments, gas caps and anything that could be unbolted or removed with much hassle.

The fully enclosed railcars used today are pretty much fool proof at least that is my experience.

:)

Since my Shelby will be delivered to Village Ford in Dearborn about 17 miles from the plant, any insight on how that delivery is accomplished? Are they usually picked up at the plant and delivered by a covered commercial carrier. Hopefully not driven. Could just see some kid picking this up and having a bit of fun before me. Unless it was Noah of course, that would be okay. :like:

I think the enclosed versions really took off when vehicles started being produced in Mexico. When the trains stopped here in San Antonio, more people than cars were unloaded....

Chairman: I believe it!

One time coming up 77 from The Valley on Thanksgiving when the checkpoint was closed, I watched about ten illegals jump out of the back of a pickup just passed the checkpoint. The bed wasn't covered and I didn't see a single person until they started jumping out.

So, I can IMAGINE how many might get off or on a train car.

Earl: Thanks for the photo.

Earl: GREAT CLIP!! THANK YOU.

Amazing that they have bridges between the cars, talk about making things more efficient...WOW. You could load up a hundred cars pretty darn quickly that way.

Very cool...

Here is a Google Earth picture of the railcars at Flat Rock. It is actually in Woodhaven, which is just across the street from the plant.

I would give my dealer a call and see how he normally receives cars from Flat Rock.

Do they tie them down at all? I didn't see anything that they would attach to. Excellent video Snoopy.
