I don't disagree, most probably will never fail. I've read that the tabs have broken but that's second hand so not sure how big of an issue that really is. I'm replacing it once a year just because mine is primarily track driven and of all the costs I think the $7 is worth not worrying about it.I can see one going bad, but only after many years... I did about 7 oil changes on my first track pack, and the drain plug still looked like new? I mean it comes off and goes in by hand, the only thing that can go bad is the seal; but if you ensure the surface is clean and there is a little oil on it when you install it , should never fail.
