I'm having issues with a component speaker setup I had installed professionally. The right side door speakers cut in and out while not even at a high volume. Yesterday the guys at the shop told me they finally figured out why it was doing it, and it's that the 18 and 19 GT's have Active Noise Cancelling. They also said that unlike previous models or the EcoBoost, there isn't a mic they can just disable or unplug to get it to stop as the only mic they even found was the Bluetooth mic for voice commands. They've ordered a special module for the factory system to bypass it and are hopeful it will disable it.

My question though is, are they full of it? They seemed very knowledgeable about other model and year mustangs and ANC, just thinking based on how ANC worked in other models, there has to be a mic somewhere right? They swore up and down there was nothing under the headliner.

They are pulling your leg. Only Ecoboost Mustangs and GT350 have active noise cancelling. The GT does not. They likely did a piss poor wiring job or installed a bad speaker.

It could also be an issue with the amp supplying the right side.

I've done business with this shop many times over the years, never had a single issue. They pulled the amp and speakers and tested everything last time I was there, zero issues outside of the car. Then they swapped the L/R wiring so the left side was playing the right to confirm there was some sort of ANC happening and sure enough the right side played perfectly and the left ones started cutting out. I asked for more details today and how I couldn't find anything about GT's having ANC and this is what they told me.

They called different shops and found one that had the same issue with a 2019 GT. That shop said that after much headache they confirmed the 19 GT's do have ANC, however the reason no one knows they have it is instead of a normal ANC setup with extra mic's around the car, where the factory amp handles the ANC, The headunit itself is what's doing it using only the Bluetooth mic. Even the factory amp is different on the 19's vs the 18's because of this. That shop worked around it by installing a DSP, but the module they're getting in for mine should also fix the issue. Regardless, them swapping the L/R to test shows the headunit is definitely sending out something that is causing the speakers to cut out.

They also aren't charging me for any of this extra work/testing and they've worked on the car for hours on end trying to remedy the issue.

Mmmmmm. Not sure about this and I think there is some confusion !

Firstly, Active Noise Cancelling is actually different to the 'sound augmentation' Active Noise Control provided by the system in the Mustang Ecoboost cars. A N Cancelling requires multiple microphones in the car (one isn't enough) and is fitted to 'Vignale' spec Mondeo (Fusion) and Edge diesels (but not petrols) in the UK. It's role is to make the car quieter by removing NVH.

A N Control in the Mustang provides an augmented exhaust sound for Ecoboost cars

There is a video showing how to disconnect the A N Control in an Ecoboost but this is not present in the V8 (or not in Europe anyway)

It looks like the 2020 GT500 will have Active Noise-Cancellation technology, according to some websites. Maybe they implemented it on the 2019 Gt's to test it?

Someone in this reddit post claims they didn't hear any difference between quiet and normal modes, unless they were in the cabin with windows up.

Likely quiet vs. Normal is done with the stereo speakers and active noise canceling. Didn’t hear any difference stopped with the window down.

Probably. When the person switched to normal I also questioned what the difference was.
