2019 GT: 10K Mile Service

Hi All,

quite curious - what should I be paying for a standard 10K service at a Ford dealership (2019 GT).

Got charged $277 and feel like that was expensive.

Depending on your in service date , the wipers should have been under warranty . The 44k fuel additive is not needed . And 50 bucks for a cabin filter is one hell of a mark up . Now brake down the labor . 5 bucks to put wiper blades on , 10 bucks to poor a can of fuel additive , and 25 bucks for a cabin filter . In my honest opinion , they seen you from a mile away , you got ripped off . If you read your maintenance schedule, basically at 10k service is an oil change tire rotate and a multi point inspection. Working for a dealer and seeing this just pisses me off .

Wow...anything else on there because I add up the prices listed on the invoice and they total something a lot less than you were charged? Also that price is crazy expensive. I pay around $1090 OTD for my 50k service on my powerstroke diesels. That's coolant flush, trans flush, front diff flush, power steering, brakes and oil.

They charged you $40 to change the wiper blades, $25 to put a bottle of fuel cleaner in the tank, and $51 to change the cabin air filter.

I'd recommend doing your own maintenance.

Edit: I was reading the wrong lines for labor, but still way too much to do things so easy a caveman could do it.

Yep...literally could have replaced those 3 things and the additive in less than 20 minutes total.

Bottom line! You got hit hard for things you do not need at this point in time. Some items are covered under warranty and the dealer screwed you big time. But like the man says it is what it is. I do my own maintenance and save a lot of B/S at the dealer. If something breaks then I go to the dealer.

Now days gas has so many additives in there
I don’t think it’s necessary too add more. I have 10,357 mile on my 19 GT & my wipers are still good I haven’t checked the cabin filter yet but I sure it’s ok. long story short do all your Own maintenance as much as you can

What in the world "fuel service" could the car need at 10k miles? What was the sales pitch for that one?

Wipers? Within a year are warranty items. If It was slightly more than a year I'd ask for them to be a warranty item. Regardless you could save yourself some money, order some Icons, and install them yourself.

No idea where the cabin filter is. Some are a true PITA and honestly I'd gladly pay 50 bucks not to deal with it. But at 10k miles? That seems a bit early to me.

They gave him a 10% "discount" smh. What the hell happened to your wipers? These labor charges are insane.

Not to mention you only had 7622 miles on the car. I hope you didn't buy your car from them.

They’re called “stealerships” for a reason.

That’s all preventative maintenance at best. None of those items really need replacing at 10k.

Oil and filter, every 5-7k depending on what oil and filter you run.

Trans fluid, 25-30k is safe.

Same with differential fluid.

Coolant - 100k life I believe is what comes with the car, but even 50-60k would be the first reasonable mileage to change with normal use.

Wipers... aren’t a mileage thing. They age with use and time.

Cabin filter, every two years unless you’re in a very dusty or damp place.

Fuel cleaner.. unless there’s a specific reason the Gen III Coyotes need this, it’s more snake oil than anything.

Next time look for a coupon for what ford calls "the works". Like $29 to $39 bucks, for oil, filter. tire rotate and multi-point inspection. They may charge more for the extra 4 quarts of oil, but still not bad.

When I got there they produced this sheet with the “Manufacturer Recommended Services” for 10K, 15K, 25K etc. Will post a copy tomorrow - it’s in my car and I’m not home.

I went in because my car said I needed an oil change and didn’t ask for any special services (wipers etc) - was told this is what Ford recommends.

Kinda bullshit because although not from this dealership, I bought this car on December 31, 2018 so it’s definitely within its warranty/service period. When I bought the car I was told the average service was $60.

Any advice on recourse in a situation like this? Should I contact the GM of the dealership or Ford?

Doing it myself makes sense moving forward however I was under the impression that I had to go to the dealership to maintain my warranty. Is that a fact?

It’s just being informed and aware of what to look for.

Nothing to contact the dealer about. It’s the service writers job to upsell you on “scheduled” maintenance items. It’s not doing any damage to replace it, except to your wallet. That’s their cash cow along with non-warranty repairs.

Easy reference is to check the service intervals in your owner’s manual. That will cover major fluid exchange items (coolant, trans, diff, brake fluids) and recommended intervals.

New cars have made it almost foolproof for the average consumer to drive their car right to the dealer when the service indicator comes on. It will calculate based on mileage, driving habits, time since last service when things come “due”.

As far as maintaining the warranty, normal service in no way has to be performed by the dealer for your warranty to remain in tact. It’s always a good idea to keep service records for any maintenance and repairs not performed at the dealership (such as keeping receipts for oil and filter if you change yourself).

The warranty risk comes along with modifications or I would suspect major items that aren’t replaced under warranty that could in turn cause other parts to fail that you try to make a warranty claim on.

Most dealers will charge some miscellaneous bogus shop fee. It’s like a dealer closing fee when you purchase. It serves as profit for the dealer. It doesn’t “cost” money to perform a closing on a vehicle.

Like your miscellaneous charges. I would ask what that is, specifically and I would have also asked it to be removed if they can’t explain how it correlates to the service. I imagine that’s their “I opened a box of parts and had to dispose of the cardboard” convenice fee. Lol.
