I remember a video where Carl Widmann says they worked to make it neutral, but I think what he meant was that it needed to fit in with the existing aero. It very well could have had too much downforce in the early tests and it had to be adjusted to not screw up the the overall aero balance.

Can you provide a link? Previous interviews I read/watched from around the time of the 2018 unveil stated that the PP1 wing is functional and provides 60lbs of downforce at 80mph. I mean, that’s not enough to make any real difference, but it does indeed do something. :p

I recall that interview, too; but couldn't find the link. The other function is the weight of the spoiler helps improve front/rear weight distribution. ;)

Except for those who track cars, street speeds aren't going to make any spoiler do a whole lot. I was kind of chuckling to myself the other day when we were on a trip in the wife's Honda Pilot, passing an Audi A7 at 80mph with his spoiler that deploys around 70. I'm sure he needed that spoiler deployed to feel the extra handling confidence while cruising, and the fuel economy hit from the extra drag is worth it; and I must have had a death wish driving so recklessly in a mere mainstream CUV with not near the aerodynamic sophistication of the $80K plus Audi.

So, for those of us who barely, if ever, track our be-spoilered Mustangs above 150mph in corners, let's just admit we like them because they look cool...and we can claim a little bit of street cred that the engineers didn't just design them to look cool but actually deliver a somewhat positive effect.

I think anyone who buys an audi a7 couldnt care less about fuel economy

Obviously.... ...and my point is the same thing can be said about us muscle car brand buyers along with our spoilers. I'm about to set my "performance shift indicator" to a lower rpm so I can see the pretty lights work more often, since I rarely run it to 6500 rpm on the street where I have it set now. That makes me as vain as that Audi driver; and I'm self-aware and humble enough to admit it.

The 2018 PP wing I definitely wish to have on my gt.. Would like to find one still on trunklid in color black. Would trade my spoiler delete trunk plus cash.. ..Anyways have had the gt350r replica from cjponyparts for two years and yet to paint and get mounted. Especially since I've had my eye on this new PP wing.. So leads would be great if any come up for sale.

I like the wing, but not enough to have ordered a car with it. I guess it's the part of me that loves sleeper cars, but wings just don't do anything for me. I really like the clean lines of my spoiler-delete car, and the PP2 spoiler is about the only S550 spoiler / wing that I like. It's also about as close to no wing as you can get and still have something bolted to the deck lid.

As I stated in the quoted post, it won’t make much of a difference. However, to state that it does nothing or is only for looks is incorrect and the point of my reply. Opting for either keeping or deleting the spoiler should be based on preference and not performance. :)

I'm not a fan of wings on a car unless it is absolutely needed AND it looks like it wasn't bolted on or a last minute thought.

But, seeing the PP1 in person, it grew on me fast and furious.

Starting just before 11 minutes. I agree that there may be some downforce but remember that they sell with or without the "wing" with no other changes to PP1 setup AFAIK.

You’re misinterpreting the conversation. He explains what he meant by “arero neutral” and did not say it serves no purpose nor that it does not create downforce.
In TFL’s actual review (skip to 3:40)

The same guy who also initially misinterpreted the statement says that the wing is functional and does provide downforce. :)

Thanks for the additional conflicting statement video which I've also seen but didn't remember this part. It would be nice to know the details and correct information.

One factoid from the "wing/spoiler" on my car after 9K miles with lots of "buggy" interstate highway driving. I don't recall any noticeable "dead bug" remains on the wing/spoiler even though the windshield and all leading edges (hood, mirrors, etc) certainly do collect bugs. I don't have the knowledge or experience to compare this with "real wings" or "real spoilers". My wild guess because I've heard of the term is "boundary layer". :D

Another "factoid" is that the black panel between the taillights and the rest of the rear bumper "seem" to collect as much dust as my 15 GT PP did. Again I don't know why the car with or without the "wing/spoiler" seems to have the anecdotally the same low pressure area in regard to collecting dust.

He's just a Youtuber making content up for those that follow him, he might as well have said that the tires are filled with unicorn farts. The rear wing is decorative, nothing more, I'd be willing to bet.

I highly doubt it adds any down-force, as the Mustang engineer said they made it "aero-neutral for the set-up of the car", they didn't want "too much down force". That sounds like double-talk to me, because I doubt the front end of these cars have any down-force.
