Does this provide any actual down force at speed? It appears pretty big. Or is it just weight and bling only? Wind tunnel testing anyone?

In an early 2017 interview the Mustang chief engineer said that the PP1 rear wing is "aero neutral" which the interviewer interpreted to mean "it does nothing". The chief engineer did not disagree and also mentioned there was significant wind tunnel and CFD time/cost involved. Bottom line: Bling and more work to wash the car. However I like mine.

Thanks for info. Sounds like it’s not causing unneeded drag either. It is growing on me and most of the PP cars I’m seeing have them. Back end looks menacing with them on imo.

If there is ONE thing I would change on my 2018 GT PP, would be the wing. My missus loves it, I prefer the tiny hard to notice one I had on my 2017 GT Premium.

But, that's just me. I am however getting used to it now. Well, I guess I better, I need to pay for the car over the coming years :) :)

I like the wing, I was skeptical at first but after owning the car for a couple of months it grows on you fast. It really helps the look of the car.

That being said if I ever become good enough at racing where a wing will help me then I could see changing it to something functional.

I would suspect the same. However, I could see it cleaning up the air a little bit as it passes over the trunk contour. Air streams don't really always follow surface contours so it might help out with reducing drag to a point.

Obviously this is NOT a Mustang but conceptually, one could grasp what it MAY be doing.

I actually like it quite a bit. It think it visually raises the back end of the car, giving it a slightly more aggressive look.

On the wing aerodynamics, I looked at a few videos from Carl Widmann and I don't think it's neutral, but I don't think it does more than other spoilers, and they had to work on that. I think the issue was making sure it didn't cause a problem at higher speeds and upset the rest of the aerodynamics.

It's a Facebook video, but he makes a brief reference to that here at about the 2:20 mark:

The GT PP1 went up ~$1000 for 2018 over the 2017, with the difference being the rear wing. Spoiler delete does NOT give you a credit back, I was neutral on the look, so I decided to get what I paid for...And I have not regretted it.

Not a huge fan of the spoiler look, especially if it's strictly cosmetic... so I ordered my 2018 PP1 with the spoiler delete. :)

I like the 2018 spoilers. I have the small premium spoiler, but I may wait for a PP wing to pop up in the marketplace and buy it. That or go GT350 TP wing.

Spoiler is for looks, most of the downforce is made by the front splitter. But, I like how it looks and you pay for it even if you delete it.

As it was explained to me when buying my 18: On the ā€˜15-17 there wasn’t enough downforce in the front to have a larger wing/spoiler on the rear. That’s why you did not see them offered from the factory. With the new change to the front end, there is significantly more downforce making the larger rear spoiler viable on the pp.
Like I said, that is what I was told. Don’t know if true or not. The front end of my 18 does hug the road better than my 15 though.

Can you provide a link? Previous interviews I read/watched from around the time of the 2018 unveil stated that the PP1 wing is functional and provides 60lbs of downforce at 80mph. I mean, that’s not enough to make any real difference, but it does indeed do something. :p
