As someone who is on the inside on Mustang news, I highly recommend those trying to buy a Mustang soon, to wait until 2018 ...
Sorry, no, can't wait.

Here's a list of items the '16 Mustang GT Base model has/are available that the Camaro 1SS doesn't (per Ford's website):

........................................ MUSTANG GT BASE .. CAMARO 1SS
Starting MSRP
......................... $32,395 ................ $36,300
Security System ..................... Standard ............ Not Available
Fog Lamps ............................. Standard ............ Not Available
Steering Wheel Audio Controls . Standard ............ Not Available
Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror . Standard ........... Not Available
Tire Pressure Monitor ............... Standard ........... Not Available
Driver Adjustable Lumbar ......... Standard ........... Not Available
Temporary Spare Tire .............. Available ............ Not Available
Rear Parking Aid ...................... Available ............ Not Available
Front Leg Room (in) ................... 44.5 .................... 43.90
Trunk Volume (ft³) ..................... 13.5 ..................... 9.10
I sat/driven in my co-workers 6th Gen.. it just doesn't have fog lamps and not sure about the rear view mirror dimming option. Also, it went up $500 for the 17 model and it's exactly the same as the 16. Fail on GM haha

There's a lot of things the Standard on the base SS that the base GT doesn't have that's more performance orientated.. . Such as 275 Good year run flat staggered tires, 8"inch screen, brembos all around, 3 radiators, oil/tranny/differential coolers, 3.73 gears, the lighter aluminum chasis, the tremec tranny and of course, the LT1.

So it is more expensive and most folks aren't going to shell the cash! Enthusiasts yeah, but not the majority.

As someone who is on the inside on Mustang news, I highly recommend those trying to buy a Mustang soon, to wait until 2018MY. Some very big changes. I myself have an EB and am eagerly waiting till 2017 for me to swap up.

And if you're looking to get a V6, might want to get one quick. It is not long for this world.
Why wait a year, life is short! Get the 16 or 17.. Ford is coming out with a tune that will really help things!

GT all the way!!

Ford also forgets to mention all the performance parts the 1SS has over the Base GT. If you add the performance pack to the GT base, it comes way closer in price to the 1SS.

I live in Michigan, recently worked at Ford for a short time, and have heard the same thing from some individuals who may or may not know what the plans for the 18 hold. I haven't been told any specifics but when I mentioned how the Camaro is killing the mustang power wise and I am looking into getting a 1LE when they drop I was told "not for long, just do yourself a favor and wait for the 18 before making any final decisions and trading in your 5.0" lol. Also was told the interior is going to be amazing with some cool new features.....Keeping my fingers crossed
I think the '18 is the Mustang that will be the complete package. 10 speed, new full LED front lights with DRLs and new front and rear fascias, updated HP, plus new digital gauges cluster, probably E-brake (get rid of the fugly p-nis skin looking pull brake) plus updated materials and maybe even new digital goodies (like in that demo thing they had at one of the car shows across the whole dashboard).

The direction shouldn't come as a surprise to you. The entire generation was drawn out prior to any clay so...

...you shouldn't need confirmation or ideas on what comes next.
I know, I know......but I like to see tangible evidence that something is coming. The nearest we've had so far were the excellent shots M6G caught of the white GT/Mach 1 mule with the quad tips......but that was clearly based on the pre-facelift car.

I guess the fact is, much of the development is done virtually these days. I know Ford have some very impressive computer aided design facilities (I could watch "A Faster Horse" every day.....that stuff fascinates me) so we'll see mules much later in the development cycle than days gone by. But that doesn't make me any less anxious to see those camo clad prototypes as, for me, those start the official countdown :)

There are some accurate posts in this thread guys and there are some changes that haven't been predicted yet that are impressive imo. Gotta keep my mouth shut for a few months :ford:

All I know is, its enough to make me think twice about getting a BMW M4 at twice the cost.
Thank you......and I wouldn't really expect you to spill those beans. I certainly wouldn't want anyone to lose their job as a result of lose lips on a forum.

But the '18MY can't get here soon enough :ford:

As someone who has driven an M4, the current GT is enough to make you consider skipping on the M4. You will have a hard, very hard time finding an M4 for under 75k, at least around here.

My list was for the 1SS vs. the Base GT.

There might be a few things the GT doesn't have, and many owners don't want/need.

The SS isn't available with A/S tires, no help to people in harsher climates.

Benefit of staggered tires force costs up that most people will not utilize.

Can't wait to see feedback for the tune.. it will def. play keep me from trading in my GT for the 18
While a Ford certified tune would be interesting, I'm not inclined towards an '18 because I got my barely used GT Premium at $4,000 off sticker.

Yes, but all that stuff is a waste for many owners. With the GT, you have the option to save $$ on things a lot of people don't want.

I would love to see a new manual 6 speed and the 10 speed introduced.

  • Effectiveness of a 10 speed is yet to be determined
  • I'm completely happy with the lights I have
  • Styling has grown on me, I'm always getting compliments on the car. The jury is still out as to whether the yet to be released fascia is an improvement
  • Additional hp is always nice, but I won't freak out over negligible increases
  • I had digital gauges in my 14 SHO, did not like them
  • Other additional doo-dads/styling cues might be an improvement, or it might not be

The 2018 will start to adopt more form the 1968 version. The S650 (2019-ish) will inherit more aggression as did the '69 and '99. It will resemble the sketch and possibly be slightly more shrink wrapped. Structural weight loss will be offset by equipment upgrades (brakes/tires and transmissions).

The S650 is merely the lightweighting and styling that didn't make the budget in 2014.

Don't wait, if you like it, but it because this era won't be "new" ever again. This is the Classic design phase of the generation. More people associate with it more.

According to Cars.com, Ford maintained a 60 day supply of '17 Mustang's. This is the first 2 consecutive months the Mustang has held a 60 day surplus. Current stock sits at 19,600 or about the same as last month at the same time. As long as the holiday shut down wasn't too long, sales of the Mustang should be around 9800-10,800.

On the Camaro side, not so great...

Last month, the Camaro had around 23,000 in stock (high 22,xxx). The amount of Camaro's went from 19,500 in May, 22,000 in June now 24,500. The rest of the 2016's and few '17's...

Production and shipping has been reduced yet a similar overstock happened. Now the camaro sales could drop 30-40% for July '16 from July 15. That's 4000-4600 this month... If true, the Camaro has nearly a 180 day supply of 2016 Camaro's. Only some on cars.com are '15 z28's...

Small changes to the entire lineup to make them appear more GT350-ish will attract those left holding out. The '18 appears to be using lessons learned from the GT350 while the S650 is structurally more exotic like the M4.

The sales situation we discuss is only in the US as well. Overseas sales are around 20% at least (2000). I know that's probably low. Last year was closer to 40%...

12,000-15,000 Mustang's are sold each month and is just as profitable as the S197's first 3 years.

You realize this is a refresh not a new model right? The car is not going to lose weight until the s650, just isn't gonna happen, would it be nice sure but I highly doubt it. I doubt active exhaust will happen more likely a louder exhaust hopefully but not likely active. 6 speed is likely gonna remain the same unless they really revamp the engine again which I doubt.

The 2018 will get better but I have a hard time believing it's gonna be a game changer, that's going to happen in 2021. I hope I'm wrong I really do but don't count on it.

I don't know man....Topnotch has been very on point on all his information that he's even hinted at for a long time now.
