So I’ve fixed on doing a Whipple Gen 5 on 2018 GT A10. I’ve gotten all whole mod and some labor pricing also. Well with that being said labor alone for the supercharger and OPG’s is $1900+. Get this lol.. that’s before tax which is a lot and can go towards my fuel system or something. How many you guys installed your own supercharger and OPG? How hard was it? I’m no mechanic so I’m nervous to try it myself

I am surprised you can get it done for $1900. It is MUCH more than that here in Minneapolis and the OPG surgery adds considerable expense. Unless you have pretty solid mechanical expertise and experience, I would advise you to have it done by someone who has experience with installing superchargers and the OPG/CS.

I agree with brucelinc..... NY prices would be $1900 just for blower install. Does the shop have experience with the coyote? If not look elsewhere.

So here is an unpopular opinion. On an 18 10sp I'd skip the OPG install. It's not a DIY mechanic install and I don't think it's necessary on 18+ unless you are running 800+hp at 8k rpms
But to answer your question, grab $1900 quote and run with it!!!

I agree with you, I’m never gonna shift my car above 7300 nor will I hit the limiter in the burn out box so for me OPG is not needed

I am not changing my OPGs, either. I am planning on low 600s WHP and stock shift points.

This is a controversial topic for sure. I called Whipple some time ago with a question about their stage 2 kit. The salesperson connected me with one of their techs. The tech told me that the tune with their stage 2 kit raises the shift points 300 rpm over stock. He said emphatically that upgraded OPGs were needed due to the increased rpm and resulting stress on the crank. He recommended the Stage 1 kit if I wasn't upgrading OPGs.

I would like for someone give me a technical answer to these questions:

Why is hitting the rev limiter considered a near death sentence for OPGs? I assume the rev limiter cuts either fuel or spark when the specified rpm is reached. Is it the actual rev limiter that is detrimental or is it the high RPM that causes the rev limiter to cut power that is the culprit? Also, if hitting the rev limiter with a blower is bad, why isn't it just as bad when NA?

Most of the techs I have spoken with tell me that it is vibration and "pull" on the crank that is bad news for OPGs. Maybe hitting the limiter creates some severe instant vibration?

I know somebody personally that the opg broke in a 2018 A10 whipple 3.0 car, he thought the same thing. I would do the opg.

I would not do a Whipple stage 2 without them.

I’m definitely going to do them. I don’t want to take any chances plus I already have my OPG and it would be stupid not to install them

Stay off the limiter, don rev past 7300

No reason to do them
I agree. However, Whipple loves rpm. Staying in a safe rpm range with a Whipple leaves a lot of power on the table. That is why I prefer TVS....and so does Ford and GM for their factory supercharged cars. Even the GT500 makes its 760 crank HP at 7300 rpm. No need to rev to the moon.

Don't try this if you don't have good mechanical skills and the tools.look!! Recommendation buy the OpG install kit on LateModel Restoration and Reische Thermostat.
