Between finding a design I liked, fit and finish concerns, water (and snow) management questions, and cost I could not find a hood that I liked. These vents are the next best thing. I went to the local Ford dealer to order them so they would be easy to return if there was something I didn't like about them. Unfortunately, they have no returns on special order parts. With that info, I just went home and ordered them off a vendor on Ebay with a 30 day return policy. I ordered gloss black to go on my gloss black '18. Thanks to everyone for all the reviews in this thread that make me confident about ordering. I'll be selling my stock gloss black vents.

For anyone interested, I was able to find some pictures from the Air Designs car they took to Sema. Here is what the vents look like colored to match the body. It is honestly tempting me but what does everyone think?

I'm considering those vents as well, but not body colored. I think, for the Mustang, they would better either matte or gloss black, depending on one's preference and mods.

Now that I saw the photo again, however, those air curtains are now back on my 'possible' list ... thanks! :sunglasses:

Got them installed last night. Here is a comparison of the LH Air Design vent and the OE one

Some detailed views of the underside of the Air Designs vent. I am a little disappointed about the air flow on these vents. Even though the opening is large, if you look at the edge view you will see that there is almost no room at all for air to flow under the first two fake openings to get to the most rearward real opening. I am thinking it should have been designed with the front opening being real rather than the rear. All that said, I imagine I'll be fine in Michigan. I reused the plastic underside parts as I think they help manage water running down into the opening. Also they distribute the load on the nuts across more of the sheet metal (even though that really doesn't matter).

Here is a comparison on the car. The lighting sucks in my garage right now (new lighting to come), but you can sort of see what is going on.

Here is the finished product "gloss black" on Shadow black (although not perfectly clean).

Looks really nice. I am digging the body matched look.

Agreed with the airflow comment, unsure about real performance. I checked my cylinder head temp before and after during long drives and didn't notice any difference. Not scientific but something.

Are you happy with them so far?

I love the look, it is almost exactly what I was looking for, but I do wish they were built into the hood rather than added on. I am not too worried about the airflow, but I am thinking there is a possibility for small debris to make it through the grills but not get past the bottlenecks in the vent. I guess the only option at that point is to shop vac it out if anything gets stuck and is visible in there.

I agree, I think ideally I would want them to sit slightly lower which would have worked had they been manufactured into the hood.

Glad you are enjoying yours. I am debating taking mine off, I will likely decide this weekend.

I keep going back and forth between these and the Roush vents. These look great in pictures, I'm concerned they may be too bold for what I'm looking for. It appears in the pics, they're almost double the length of the stock vents, is that about right? The last group of pics is really swaying me to these vents though.

Slightly more than double. I decided to have mine body painted so if you can wait until the end of the week I’ll share photos. They should be back from the body shop by then.

If I had to do it again I would have done matte instead of gloss black. The gloss black is very bold and the matte is exactly the same as the roush. My only issue with the roush is drilling and I’ve never been a fan of the end result. Personal preference though.

Would love to see that, thanks. Great point on the gloss black vs matte black. I see the Ford part number VJR3Z-16C630-D says "gloss black" but I have a feeling it means satin black. Does anyone know or can confirm?

Here’s the code for matte black. I can find you a photo of it. I’ve seen it on another car in this forum. I’ll post it shortly.

Matte black: VJR3Z-16C630-C
