Shouldn’t spend money on an instrument cluster then . Just busting your balls but I’d do things the opposite way if I ever go FI. I’m sure it’s a fun roll racing car..

I am 90% certain that the cluster can be swapped into our cars without issue. From what I can tell, we will need the cluster itself and dash trim surrounding the cluster (the gauge cluster chrome trim). From there it should be a plug and play swap with the minor issue of getting the mileage programed... I am going to guess that the cost of the cluster will be in the range of $1200 from Fordparts and will not be available until the end of the year at the earliest.
Noooo another 1k. It seems the over 1k is always around when trying to mod lol. I would love to swap I test drove one with the new cluster and let me tell you it looks awesome.

No luck at my local Ford dealership.. Same backorder dates on the buttons and SCCM.

So just kept the order with Tasca and wait it out at this point.

Will get the cluster order next week and just install it just like that with the bezel until I can get the buttons and SCCM module. Just need to get Tasca to go ahead and send out the trim piece with the cluster if they would.

Yeah I called Tasca today and they said they received my cluster late Wednesday night and said he was going to make sure it got shipped out today. Just gotta wait on my dealer for everything else! Can't wait to get this in even if I can't use it completely. Should be here Tuesday if it goes out today.

No I forgot. Car was getting some custom exhaust work and was out of my hands for a few days. I’ll be home Tuesday and I’ll try and remember. Need to do something to distract myself on waiting for this damn SCCM.

Thanks to @db252 and @p6cl for pulling the trigger.

Have a GT 2016 Manual trans with sync 3 and PP
  • JR3Z-10849-LB <-- Cluster for manual trans
  • JR3Z-9C888-AA <-- New buttons
  • JR3Z-9C888-EA <-- New buttons
  • JR3Z-9C888-CA <-- New buttons
  • JR3Z-63044D70-BA <-- Instrument Panel
  • JR3Z-3F791-HA <-- Steering Column (DJC: comes with stalks on both sides for your turn signals and wipers. Also comes with the necessary 2018 SCCM module that controls all the buttons by communicating with CAN)
My car is similar but a 2017. I went car shopping online and found a few 2018’s equipped as I need: GT with Option 401A, which makes it a “Mustang GT Premium Plus” and Performance Package. I saved the VIN numbers. Although I would welcome these mods, I avoided cars with active exhaust, magnetoride suspension, etc. I exspecially avoided cars with the Safe and Secure option as that gives auto-highbeams and this will be problematic.

So, based on reading, and even posting, on the 40pp so far it seems that a 2018 heated steering wheel is cool, it even comes loaded with all four sets of buttons. However, that requires buying a new airbag. It also requires a bit of alteration to the existing wiring harnesses.

If I skip the heated wheel, then I need to source three of the four button groups. Looks like the bottom left is unchanged from 2017 to 2018, confirm?

We also see a current order backlog for the SCCM - part of the Steering Column listed above. Any reason to try and order the SCCM itself over swapping out the Steering Column? Finally, if not doing the heated wheel, then these parts are basically plug and play - after you cut out the plastic behind the old cluster to fit in the new digital cluster?

If I do this, then I can run FORscan and open the .abd files that I also downloaded by VIN for those same 2018 cars, then code the IPC and the SCCM to suit?

Is this a fair summary?

You have the right idea on the vin search and looks like you found one that is best for you. Avoiding options you don’t have cuts down on the confusion with forscan changes.

If you order an 18 steering wheel, heated or not, it will come with the switches but just be sure to order the correct one. Yes you will need the 18 air bag as well as it is different from the 15-17. There is no wire alterations needed for the 18 wheel and air bag. The wiring changes, and this is probably what you were referring to, is the harness you have to make which connects to the new SCCM and steering wheel harness plus you have to buy the heated steering wheel module which it also connects to and add those as-built values also.

If you skip the heated wheel, you will need those three buttons that you mentioned.

We aren’t ‘swapping’ out the steering column. We need the SCCM and the new clockspring which comes as a whole unit with the signal and wiper stalks. If you are NEVER doing the heated wheel you could get away with just ordering the new SCCM which still costs as much as the part we are waiting for. It may also be delayed as well but not sure.

As far as forscan programming goes, you are right on par.

FORScan released a new version last week and I was told by them it should work for 2018 Mustang modules by them. I emailed them asking for the beta the day before they released the new version. Since they're in Russia they released it as they replied to my email that night. For obvious reasons I have no way to actually try it yet.

My cluster/trim piece shipped today from Tasca. Should be here Wednesday/Thursday. Exciting!

I'm still tempted to try and add adaptive cruise but worried about PCM programming complications... ABS/BdyCM/IC are easyyyyy

This is good info. To be clear though, I will reuse my existing 2017 wheel and airbag. No plans to buy a 2018 wheel unless I went whole hog and wanted it heated, and was willing to buy the new airbag. Before I make that call I just want to confirm (if I stick with my 2017 wheel) that for the SCCM itself - it is the same size as the 2017, fits in same place? The plugs and jacks are the same for the 2017 like mine and the new 2018 SCCM I would need? Snap out the 2017 SCCM and snap in the new 2018, insert existing 2017 plugs into the new SCCM and go on from there?

Finally, if buying just the SCCM alone - part number, pricing - for anyone who has done just that? If within a few bucks of the assembly as above, then maybe just buy that - unless backorder is much less time?

Thanks!

If you are never going with the 18 wheel than you can get away with just the new SCCM or the housing assembly that is NOT made for the heated wheel which is a different part and may be available.

Also, and remember I’m trying to give the best advice and info, there are no gaurantees as this is still a new undocumented process. Nothing is known until someone tries it and makes it work.

I received my cluster and trim today. Installed both! I am not able to get FORScan to let me change any as built data. I have been emailing db252 and FORScan for some assistance on that. Right now its telling me to check 4x4...4wd mustang coming in the future??

Nothing really works. It shows me my speed and RPM and basic trip/fuel economy right now. I have a U2100 code which says the module hasn't been initially configured yet. Hopefully when I can finally get the ABD to change that will go away. I have a pretty good idea what I need to set everything to. Drive modes don't work nor does steering modes/tc/esc. It also doesn't dim when you turn the lights on. The poor thing just needs to be set up. Hopefully I can get it to work tomorrow with some direction from the FORScan guys and having my OBDLink MX instead of my crappy ELM with a switch on it.

It looks awesome though!

Install pretty easy? I'm sure just getting it installed put a smile on your face.
