Yeah. I’m assuming only Ecoboost cars are open or non pp GT’s.
The EBPP's and non-PP GT's all use the goofy front-vented rotors, so my guess is that the bumper corner vents somehow feed air to the brakes... Doesn't seem like a great way to do that, though. The GTPP rotors are the conventional rear-vented type that lends itself to cooling by pulling air from under the car or through the grille.

For reference, my car is an EBPP + MR + SafeSmart/ACC, and the vents are open with the hole in the fender liner.

I just bought a pair of the closed vents from Tasca parts for $19.75 plus shipping. I’ll keep the originals and use these to open up using a palm sander. I plan on tracking my pp2 eventually and if the brakes get hot I guess I’ll try the originals. Sad the 18-19’s don’t have the ducting options that the 15-17’s have via the fog lamp openings.

As soon as I have an extra set of hands I’ll remove the front fascia to replace the grill, install the velossa techs and zl1 tow hook as well as these vents. I’ll take pics as I go.

I think for anyone using the GTPP / Brembo brakes, using the vents as an intake for a proper ducting system would be the way to go. There will be a little more work to get everything in place, but it would actually do the job that needs to get done if you're tracking the car.

Finally got these from Tasca Parts. I like modifying non-original parts as to save the originals. Was hoping to hear thoughts on whether to sand until the honeycomb is open or just cut them completely? I’m up in the air on what to do. Is the straining effect of the honeycomb even necessary for this application?

I think for anyone using the GTPP / Brembo brakes, using the vents as an intake for a proper ducting system would be the way to go.
OK, 1st of all, these 'vents' on the S550 Mustang are too far outboard to EVER be a brake duct. No way, no how!!! Some of you have already hit on the actual function. They are an 'air curtain' & are fully described in this article: https://www.tflcar.com/2014/03/2015-ford-mustang-curtains/. And they are not unique to the Mustang. Many other vehicles utilize them, & not just performance cars. Hell, even the F150 has 'em! They were, of course, designed for the 2015 model year Mustang when the widest wheel was 9" (I believe). As the wheel/tire/offset combo got progressively wider up thru 2020, culminating w/the 10.5 wheel & 305x30/19 tire on the PP2 option, the 'aero curtain' was no longer effective so the vents became blanking plates. Why Ford just couldn't let the air pass thru anyway, I have no idea. As for the supplemental 'ducting' that is available thru the aftermarket, I would treat them as a styling preference v. a functioning device.

Just a WAG here, but I'm thinking that to make the aero curtains effective w/the current PP2 wheel/tire/offset would require moving the existing inlets further out. At the very least, that would require a re-design of the front bumper skin ... & possibly even the front fenders. And w/a vehicle as price point sensitive as the Mustang, I just don't see that happening. If R&T is to be believed (https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-ca...650/ford-mustang-next-generation-s650-rumors/), the next major redesign for the Mustang will be 2026. That could possibly mean a mid-term upgrade that would (again) make the aero vents functional across the model range. And maybe even some brake duct openings similar to those on the Fox & SN95 Cobra front bumpers, but I digress ...
