I read about the trick from a poster in England. Removing the carbon filter does slightly open up the top of the air housing.

Also changes the flow pattern through the lid. The car is tuned to have that in place and a buddy of mine's A10 shifted oddly over time after it was removed. Replacing it fixed the issue. I would do some logs before/after and see how it works for you (MAF scaling over rpm/etc and trims)

Yes indeed, resolved immediately once I put a stock lid back on. I removed the filter and sanded the bumps smooth, no holes, and it was no bueno.

From the sounds of it, it only seems to affect non-tuned cars that remove that carbon trap?

Not sure if the tuning changes it or not. I would imagine a tune would adjust for the change if you had logs after removing it and then had the tune adjusted. I just know on a stock tune, it didnt work well.

I have had my carbon trap removed for about 2500 miles. No issues for me but I did put a K&N filter in at the same time. Mine is completely stock otherwise.
