2017 Allocation Dilema

Looking for some advice. I am at a bit of a crossroads in terms of what to do.

Since January i have been on a waiting list with a dealership for a 2017 allocation at MSRP, i put down a refundable deposit and have been waiting but to this point the dealership has only received one allocation (i am 3rd in line).

A kind member on this forum posted up a dealership with an allocation with 2K ADM. Not wanting to miss my chance to own this car i went ahead and put down a deposit and placed my order with this dealership accepting the 2K ADM.

I have not yet called the MSRP dealership to cancel my spot. My dilemma is if i should call and cancel my spot with the MSRP dealership so that it will go to the next person in line at the dealership or should i try to somehow get someone from these forums to take over my spot in line. My inclination is to do the former as i feel that is right and most fair, but i can't help but wonder if i should be trying to help another forum member as i was the benefactor of the same help to get my allocation.

Just to reiterate, the MSRP dealership does not yet have an allocation for me so this is just a hypothetical question at this point.

Is the dealer a volume dealer or small town. How many 350s did they get for 2016? It might help if they people knew location of dealer and also how much of a deposit you would want someone else to assume if you want to transfer it to someone.

They are a volume dealer, they got 7 cars between 15-16.

The purpose of the question was not to ask if anyone is interested in assuming the spot, it was more to ask the question about what's right, leave the spot for the next person on the waiting list already at the dealership or try to create a potential opportunity for someone on the forum. The more i talk and think about it the more i think it makes more sense to just cancel at the dealer and have my spot go to the next person in line. If it was the guy ahead of me in line i'd want him to do the same.

Your "spot" is just a spot on a waiting list. By definition, without you, there would just be a shorter waiting list. There's absolutely nothing to "try and replace".

I would not cancel it, nothing to lose by staying on the list. You can take the MSRP deal and pass on the 2k over deal to another member

I've had multiple deposits down, I finally locked up a deal that I'm good with.
I still have dealers calling me cause I'm still in the system, I'll pass
any info on I get to other forum members.

How do you feel about operating ethically in the business world? One way or another, you have misrepresented your intension to purchase a car, perhaps causing problems for the dealer and definitely denying someone else the opportunity to get a car. Make a decision.

what are you talking about?

I put a deposit down to hold my place in line with a dealer offering MSRP. My Sales rep and I have spoken along the way and it was him who encouraged me to continue to look for the car just in case they did not receive an allocation because he did not want me to miss out. I have made no misrepresentation to anyone, and my conscience is clear from a business ethics perspective.

Adding more information to your story after the fact doesn't help people trying to respond to your original post. Had you provided all the information about your situation in your first post, I would have said kudos to the dealer for being upfront with you on the allocation.

I would stay on the list until you received your car at the other dealership. In theory at that point you would give up your spot to the next in line anyway.

On the Internet, you are what you present; it's not up to the reader to wonder whether or not the story is complete. If your message can be interpreted multiple ways or misinterpreted, that's not the reader's fault.

Anyway, I hope your situation nets you the car you want.
