Hi all.

Is there a way you can wire up the drls on a US headlights to run on a UK Spec car?

I know the pins are different on both US/UK pins.

I've heard you can run a cable from the from the fuse box from a certain cable which I'm not sure which one.

Does anyone have a pin out for the UK spec s550

If you're talking about the tri-bars in the headlights the actual LED units aren't there, you need to buy them and open the lights up to install. (There's a thread in the UK section on how to do this).

EDIT: Actually, if you're asking about running an entire US headlight unit on a UK car you can, the other benefit is the reflector inside the headlight is bigger so the lights are actually better too. See here and other threads in the search.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for comming back

i have got a set of us head lights and the main beams to come on and ive installed the auto levelling motor as well which workks fine,

just need to find out where to wire in the extra Pins for the tri-Bar DRL

i was thinking you could come off the old DRL the on on the fog lamp but did here that would not work due to it being a pulsing and it could damage the LED ??
there is a swtich wire bu the fuse box i could run it off but not sure which it is.

i do have an old set of Pins and Cables i did buy so connecting the pins via the cornnector shouldnt be an issue.

impressive work sir! How did you get around the beam aiming on the wrong side of the road or have you just lowered drivers side so it doesn't blind oncoming traffic. 35W headlights, nice upgrade. Re DRL's and pulsing, it **might** not make a difference if that's how the US models are setup . facelift models might do this as well.

to Be fair i havent checked that i just got the Auto Leveling to run when the light came on they did look ok ie no pointing in the other direction.

i wonder if the Auto Leveling Corrects that ??? not sure woulds need to do some testing,

i regards to the DRL Tri Bar... if that correct i coulds wire it from that plug in to the headlights from both side if it is then it would work.. the US 2016 S550 version did not have our round fog Light

Intresting..... is it pin 4 on the US for DRL

Cheers David

I would do a fuse tap on Fuse 66 in the engine bay. That's what I've got my (diode dynamics) DRLs running off. I do believe that the DRLs in the UK have the funny pulsed thing going on, so would just go for that for simplicity too. I think the DRLs might run off the BCM (the indicators do) which means there isn't necessarily a clean fuse to do it from (all from the top of my head).

Cheers Mike,

as ive already got a set of US headlight so running cable from fuse 66 direct to the head light correct pin.... should do the trick.

as for running it from the UK fog\DRL light you would give it a miss ?

Yeah, I'd give that a miss, I've heard of too many people with issues when doing that. I wouldn't even bother trying. Especially as the wires around there are annoying to work with neatly!

no ide on the wiring, I actually asked about putting US headlight units into a UK car and got told it wont work lol. I have almost zero car skills so i left it at that, clearly you've proven it can be done! Be brilliant to see it all working with a write up as I might see if i can get someone up in the frozen dark North to do the work for me (or get mine converted if easier / cheaper / more likely to happen)

Re headlight aim, the US lights will tick up on the right (their pavement side) whereas ours tick up on the left - in theory you could use the manual height adjuster on the headlight unit to lower the (new) drivers side aim lower

There should be two ground wires on the US harness, not sure how many on the UK one.

im going to have to look in to the other pins 3 pins are for the balest for the xeons Same as UK but the Pins are in differnt location and i tihnk the rest by looking are for the tri bar DRL

so if the hardware is the same you could rewire the pins for the Balest so it match the UK wiring and then its just the other pins as prevoiusy said you could run the cable to the correct pin fro fuse 66

UK Pins must only Have groud High and Low Breams that would equate to the 4 cable it has

Power Ground High low 4 in total

US has the same hardware ??? if so they could be repinned for the Headlight itself.... that would sort the that out (Power Ground High low 4) the rest would be for the DRL

hope that makes sense

Have a look at the post I linked here and the two links from it. That's the two pin diagrams for US and "China" (not US). It'll be one of two pins on the US one for DRL and you a likely just test it with a long wire from your battery. There is a second ground and I'm not sure why.

SO 3 of the exta pins in the US Headlight are for the DRL tri-bar light,

1 ground
1 live
1 dipped live when connect the tri-bar goes dimmer the the best way i can explane it .

i also removed the manual Level Mec and replaced it with the Auto Leaval motor easy swap , going to test it later will let you know ASAP

the other pins are for live dipped main beans and ground

the old DRL UK car were just Normal Bulbs i did test with LED bulbs which work fine , im just i could just run a cable from it.

where us say its pulsing you can get a PWM modle to correct this
