Hi all back again. Found a 2017 with a gen 2 replacement. I still can’t find any data on whether the gen 2 is more reliable or less prone to failure. Are there any stats on this?
Gen 2, lol. It's the same engine for all practical purposes. It really makes me laugh when people tout the gen 2 name. Ford doesn't have anywhere on its books a so called "Gen 2" engine.

Prove me wrong. No such thing as a "Gen 2".

I have no 1st hand knowledge... only what I have read on this forum.
I did remove my left coil cover and it did have the GT350R label on it.
Others have indicated this was the gen2 I believe... but I have zero first hand knowledge.
Do prior GT350s have a label that is different than mine.......... I don't know that either?
What does the label under the left coil cover read on '16 - '18 non-R GT350s?

For that matter... let's complete the investigation:

As many times as this question has been asked, the same (and correct) answer has been given: There are no empirical available data. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence, stories, second-hand experience and guesses.

You know what else there are plenty of?
  1. Very healthy Voodoos being driven by very happy owners.
  2. Days that have passed since you posted your original question, that could have been spent enjoying a showroom quality 2016 GT350R.
Spend another year and a half talking yourself out of one of the greatest sports car values of our lifetime, or just get the 2017 with a Ford ESP warranty and enjoy it. I bet sounds familiar.

Alas the 2016 was kept by the owner and subsequently had an engine failure. So glad I dodged that bullet. Hopefully a warranty from somewhere will be available for 2017 no doubt at an outrageous cost. I don’t think one from Ford is available.

Last week I paid $2820 for a 48 month / 36,000 mile Ford ESP Premiumcare through Granger Ford on my 2017.

Is your name really Al, and your from Chicago? That's funny. It's probably the only name and location more closely associated with a certain demographic than Tony from NJ.

Nice deal about the 48 /36k. I might jump on one of those for my 16R if they'll have me.

Did you extend existing coverage or is this new coverage? I was on Grangers website and they dont offer a new plan for cars prior to 2021.
It'd be new coverage, the original factory warranty had expired. I didn't go through the website, and got a quote directly by contacting them through [email protected].

Tom,

Do you, or anyone, know why they sound different? i.e. '15-'18 vs '19-'20 motors?

Personally, I prefer the way the "Gen 1" sounds.

Sound different? I have been around this platform since the beginning and this is the first I have ever heard of such a thing. My first GT350 was manufactured in 2015. Solid engine.

2015-2020...... Its the same engine. Same displacement, same exhaust, same, same, same. A few minor production changes over the years, and some due to slipstreaming the block into the GT500 predator engine production.

A lot of my GT500 parts had 2019 production dates on the parts. Coincidence?

He's got to be comparing a 350 to a 350R or modified 350R to a stock one. 🤷‍♂️
