I have the 2.2 upgrade installed (via owner.ford.com so it had better be the right one for my model) and I just installed the new USB unit. I have CarPlay access but when I plug my phone in it disables my built in Nav system. Please tell me that's not right? Did ford have me download the wrong firmware? Hate the idea of having to go to the stealership to have their tech fix it...

Mine did too. I'm sure it's designed that way as Apple wants you to use Apple maps. Not a fan of that aspect of it. I also can't figure out a way to have my vehicle (the arrow) always facing up in Apple Maps.

As designed...same as Android Auto, you get to use THEIR nav not the onboard.

If so it's not a global CarPlay mandate. My KENWOOD deck in my truck is a Nav unit with CarPlay and it still works with both.

It's been my experience (limited as it is) that both Ford and GM head units behave in this fashion. I do not have any experience with other manufacturers or aftermarket, but I will defer to JumboAg99 regarding Kenwood units.

Mine does the same. You also lose the outside temp display, which is ridiculous and should be in the center screen by the speedo anyway. Frankly I prefer the OEM UI over Apple CarPlay, which is just gimmicky to me. I often don't plug my phone into the head unit USB (instead a cig lighter USB for charging) to avoid CarPlay... of course I know I can disable CarPlay but... phone charges faster anyway.
