I appreciate all the insights, that is good to know about the air gaps on the early S550s. I'll take a closer look and see if there are any improvements to be made.

Looking around I found some great sales on upgraded radiators. I may do that for now and see if vents are still necessary. I was under the impression it was nearly $1k for a radiator.

I took advantage of some Christmas sales and have on order a center hood vent and a ported 2018 intake manifold. I'm going to call a few tuners next week and and try to choose one. I'm seeing a lot of recommendations on this forum for Shaun at AED.

I was looking all over my front grill/radiator and was pleased to find that the front bumper is already pretty well ducted to the condenser. I do see a few areas between the condenser and radiator that I will try to seal up, probably with just some aluminum tape. I may open up the grill just a little bit after installing the hood vents but I won't go too crazy. The upper grill opening already pretty closely matches my mishimoto oil cooler, which is basically touching the front grill, so I won't mess too much with that area.

My testing showed the side vents were spitting out higher velocity air than the center vent. No idea on the airflow.

be careful with CAIs. Some are harder to tune than others due to the MAF signal. I had a good experience with VMP and a 18 ported intake (until I spun a bearing a few years later). Running higher rev limits on track is gonna stress your oiling system so mind your oil pressures. Mine died bouncing off a 7800 RPM limiter in a sustained sweeper for like 4 seconds. I’d do it again tho, so YMMV.

Good luck out there!

My understanding is that air at the front corners of the hood is at lower pressure than the rest of the hood. Which implies the delta pressure (P inside - P outside) is higher for side hood vents.

I chose the trackspec center vent with a wicker bill at the front so hopefully that will give some good results. The total area is also larger than the two side vents. I may still add them later but it seemed like most side vents didn't do much other than the race louvers.

I'm trying to find a deal on a 2018+ OEM intake otherwise I may choose what the tuner recommends. Glad you hear you had a good experience with VMP, they are on my short list as well.

I'll keep that in mind with the oil system. The only instances I would maybe rev that high would be the end of a straight going into a braking zone and only for a split second. It looks like you mostly do autox, where did you have your redline set at?

mostly autox is what I love, but I have plenty of days at the track too.

my current redline is 8250, but thats cause I motor swapped for a Voodoo after my Gen 2 Coyote died.

IDK what your exact mileage is, but my ā€˜16 GT sounded like it has had a similar life. Just be prepared for bearings to fail, they dont last forever, and any ORM bushings are probably shot. My fuel pump was down on flow by about 20% after 100k miles too. Diff gears needed a rebuild. Etc. if you do all the 100k mile replacements that the car needs theres no reason it cant last a lot longer doing what you’re doing with it, but a hard track driven 2016 GT on it’s original motor is on borrowed time at this point.

i did put in an oil cooler with the motor swap. Got tired of how quickly the oil would age out doing what I did with the car in the Texas heat. Hoping an oil cooler helps with oil protection longevity. High oil temps are bad just because of what they do to breakdown the oil.

the 18 intake and E85 were a fun combination and worth considering. E keeps the temps down too, just increase your oil change intervals significantly if you decide to run Ethanol. Its hard on oil.

As far as tuning goes, I have been tuned by Shaun at AED for the past 6 years. Never had any issues like you hear with other tuners. He tunes a lot of track cars especially those located in NorCal. If you tell him you track your car, he will pretty much demand you run a e85 tune at minimum. I wish I listened to him initially because I ended up getting low compression in #8 at Road Atlanta.

Currently going through an engine rebuild but once everything is back together, I will be going with Ken at OZ Tuning who has been great talking to. He also tracks his cars and is very responsive.
