I need your help with this one ...
My 2016 GT has a JLT intake and Borla Type S cat back. It's custom dyno tuned by a shop that does dozens of these tunes every year. Between 2015 and now I'd bet they've done >100 very successful tunes.
My first time out with the s550 GT, and the car cuts out after 4 laps. 1 lap warm-up, 2 at speed, beginning of 4th lap the engine dies on the front straight; 4th gear, 6000 rpm, full throttle (duh), ~180km/hr. It's like someone hit the kill switch, the engine is dead and I coast around corner 1 and pull off. NO CODES! After about 30 seconds, I push the starter button, it starts right up and drives normally back to the pits. This happens two sessions in a row, so I quit on safety grounds and head home. Naturally, the car drives absolutely normal on the way home (160 km).
My theories: It can't be the tune because there are 100 very similar cars running perfectly around Toronto. It's got to be ignition or fuel cut. There was no warning or stumbles, it just cuts out ... dead! If it was ignition I think I'd get a code. Could it be the fuel pump cut-off switch in the trunk somehow tripping at speed? Does this switch reset after 15-20 seconds? Why has this never happened on the street?
To add to the confusion, it never cut out on the dyno. We probably did 10+ pulls in 5th, from 2000 rpm to 7500. Of course these runs weren't sequential like track driving. In my 2 hot laps I probably did 30 full throttle runs to redline. That may be a factor.
I have tons of experience at the track - 15+ years, 8 different cars. I've never seen this in any of my cars, so I'd love to hear your theories and fault finding tips.
Thanks.
