2016 GT/CS Intake Manifold Broken / Trans Overheating (225F+)

Hey all,

About two weeks ago I took my '16 GT/CS on a long road trip (About 3200 miles) and halfway through the trip, noticed it was having issues idling. It happened twice, sitting in drive throughs waiting for food, the whole car shook, RPMs lowered, and it almost died. A day or two after the weird shuttering, my OBD2 connected dash cam threw a soft code for P0300 (Random Misfire) which explained why it was running poorly at low RPM. Initially, I thought it could've been some bad gas, so we drove it 1000 miles home back to San Diego without any issues and I didn't see the code pull up again, but a few days after I got home I noticed it wasn't happy around 1700-2000RPM in general driving and the whole car would shake when holding at that RPM range in park. I also heard a few more pops from my exhaust than usual.

After having my friend/mechanic take a look at it, and from doing some research around the web, the symptoms are very similar to others who have had issues with the flaps in their intake manifold snapping and getting stuck in an open or closed position. I took it to the local dealer last Thursday and just today they confirmed the problem is the intake manifold, so they will be replacing it under the powertrain warranty. (Hooray!)

I also noticed while driving, when I put the car into cruise control and set to 80-85MPH, the trans fluid was getting really hot. (225-230 Degrees F) So I'm also having them take a look at that. Would love to hear some feedback if anyone else has had a similar issue with their trans. Mine is the 6r80 6 speed Auto.

I will keep this thread updated on what happens with the IM and trans!

The intake IMRC failure is occurring with the actuator rod that is integral to the intake. The rod snaps, which renders the actuation of the IMRC plates useless and in-op.

The IMRC implementation has been a failure since it's introduction into the 1993 Lincoln MKVIII with the 4.6 DOHC. That engine design then carried over into the 1996+ SVT Cobras, (future S197 GT 5.0's, and current Coyote S550's) - which was a shit design and was problematic with failures then - and continues to be so now.
