What happened or went wrong with the USB from Cyanlabs in your 2016 GT350?
OK, sorry for the delay here. I got busy with some travel etc.

Initially the USB stick took many, many hours driving and/or running in the driveway before it actually completed the update.

It did the update.

NOW the issue is the cell phones are not recognized. Not my work Samsung, not my prior Motorola Edge 2021, nor my new Edge 2024. All three phones, and all cables tried work in my 2019 F150, 2018 Fusion Sport, and the wife's 2024 Mustang.

The phones will charge, but no Android Auto.

2016 GT350 Track Pack
So, I have a Track Pack 2016 that came without Sync3. I installed a Sync3 setup out of a 2016 GT350 wreck, added a GPS antenna and swapped the USB connections over to the newer type from a later model.

Mine works flawlessly. I use a wireless to USB adapter and both Android Auto and iPhone CarPlay launch automatically (depending on which phone I'm using) when I start the car. They run perfectly.

Now, if your car came with Sync3, then all should be well. I installed mine and integrated it using the Ford IDS/VCM II system like the dealers use. Sync3 is recorded on OASIS as installed on my VIN and I get over-the-air and online map subscription updates.

My point is, if my car can do it, it should be a breeze for yours. Maybe you're having a problem because of the older USB setup, but if you've got the latest software, it should work. Post your software version and I'll compare it with mine (updated last fall) to see if there's a difference.

Android Auto can be buggy, especially if it starts to pair a device but never completes.

I had your same experience

You've confirmed your cables work in other cars, so at least we can rule that out. It also charges, so we know your USB port fuses are not blown.

Reset Ford Sync:
To perform a factory reset (master reset) on your Ford SYNC system, navigate to the Settings menu,, then System or General, and select "Master Reset" or "Factory Reset"

Ensure Android Auto is enabled:
To enable Android Auto on a Ford SYNC system, navigate to Settings > Android Auto Preferences > Enable Android Auto

I would try to pair your phone, but first clear out the Android Auto app's storage and cache so it can pair cleanly:
  1. On your Android smartphone's home screen, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. If Android Auto isn't on the Recently used apps list, tap See all apps.
  4. Find Android Auto on the list and tap it.
  5. Tap Storage & Cache.
  6. Tap "Clear storage" and confirm your selection.
  7. Tap "Clear cache" and confirm your selection.
Good luck!

He's likely going to need the revised USB hub from 2017+ first

FWIW I just picked up a 2016. It had an ancient version of Synch. I went to the Ford site, registered, downloaded Synch 3, slapped it on a USB stick and stuck it into the port on the center console. Took about 30 minutes at idle and restarted the car once.

I use an Android (ancient Galaxy S9) and when it is plugged in, Android Auto works fine, map displays on the console and everything is peachy. Tech package obviously, not track. Still a major improvement cause I don't need to use a stupid phone mount on the windshield and I can navigate easily. Plus SMS and Signal messages appear with various notification options.

Just need to figure out the right permissions to take phone calls cause on the car side, and on the Droid side, that is completely not intuitive.

OK latest update.

Yesterday I recieved the "Trim Tool kit" and today I took out the old USB Hub & replaced it with the HU5Z-19A387-C and nothing happened. Android auto still does not start.

I double checked, YES, I have Synch 3.0 loaded. New USB cable, and my android phone works in all my other cars 100%.

What else can I check?

Does the phone still begin charging when you plug it into the newly installed hub?

Does the same cable also work in the other cars?

Hmmm, have you verified that Android Auto is enabled in the car's settings?

I believe there should be an icon for Android Auto Preferences or something like that where you can enable/disable Android Auto.
