From what I've seen, it's gonna be so damn ugly it won't matter how light it is or if it's got 500 HP....

Maybe they will add direct injection which should add some HP.
Please NO direct injection unless you combine port injection with it. Most car companies that have gone with direct injection learned that port injection was required . GM didn't pay attention and went direct injection only and is having problems with the C7 engine. Oil in the intake and carbon build up on the valves. Don't these engineers read about other car companies besides the big three.

I am not sure Ford needs to respond, we all know that HP can be added, but can it make it a better car? I would expect that Ford would make the Mustang a better car through handling and weight reduction.

This is much like the screen size war in cell phones, eventually you do not end up with a better phone just by increasing the screen size. With the upcoming Cafe restrictions, I would expect that all auto makers will have to start prioritizing efficiency over raw power, power with fuel efficiency will be the future.

I don't know if that's how it works. I'm sure Ford is always working on the Mustang. I think their first response is to see how it affects sales. If sales aren't good enough then they'll probably start incorporating whatever they're working on.

This!!! DI has it's issues. I had a Mazdasped 3 before the 5.0. We used to have valve cleaning parties LOL. Audis also have the gunked valve issues.

The oil in the intake is not because of DI. It is due to the PCV system and oil burping out from the dry sump system (especially if overfilled). Same problem existed pre-LT1.

I agree though that DI sucks and is the one thing I would remove from my C7 if I was able to make the call.

I'd imagine Ford would have some sort of response/update if the new Camaro continues to outsell the Mustang as the current generation has much of it's run.

A lighter/more powerful Camaro might put a bigger dent in Mustang sales.

I don't really think this holds water because it requires the assumptions that 1.) a majority of Camaro buyers are buying the SS and 2.) they are buying it based on performance numbers.

Far more v6 Camaros are sold than v8s, and I think pop culture (MY CAR IS A TRANSFORMER!) and aesthetics have more to do with aggregate sales than performance hp/weight numbers.

Personally, I think the current gen Camaro is ugly outside, inside, and has very poor visibility. Even if the 2016 Camaro lost weight and gained hp, they need to fix the interior and sight lines to make it a comparably enjoyable driving experience to the S550.

Ah!, so the two are not mutually exclusive. Good information. Do any current cars have this dual technology?
My very superficial understanding of the problem is that the port injection helps keep the combustion by-products in liquid form, thus retarding build-up. Will our oil catch-cans also help with this problem?

5th gen camaros were a huge sales success! Part of it is that the camaro went extinct for 8 years or so, so many die hard chevy fanboys were anxious to get back into one. I dont see this continuing over into the 6th gen unless GM hits a homerun right off the bat (they will need to shave 250 pounds, much better interior, and 440+ hp). Looks are subjective too.
