I was thinking... with all this talk of the ecoboost 4 cylinder Mustang being confirmed I'm wonder what it will be badged or called?

Maybe they call it the Mustang ST like how they have a Focus ST and a Fiesta ST?

Possible considring if R&T article is right and the ecoboost 4 model isn't even the base model engine?

SVO!

Would hate to see them borrow from the the Fiesta/Focus lines. That's corny and unoriginal. How about a 2.3 badge? Or is that broadcasting too much estrogen? :D

SVO stood for Special Vehicle Operations, a now-defunct subdivision of Ford. In the States it was replaced by SVT.

It would make sense that it would be called ST, as it is already here in the Fiesta and Focus, and soon in the Fusion. Just in case anyone didn't know, ST stands for Sport Technologies.

Yes, I was being facetious in that Ford should bring back the Mustang SVO. Of course the division is now defunct. The EB4 would most closely resemble what Ford did with the 2.3L in-line 4 of the Mustang SVO. Far as I know, this has not been attempted by Ford since the Fox platform pre-dating the SVT division.

ST, SVO, etc... doesn't matter its all good with me as long as it performs well. But like Thed said it would make sense to badge it an ST.

Yea, ST would make sense to me. Not sure everyone would be happy with that badge. Definitely a hardcore contingent of oversized egos that hate anything referencing sporty w/r/t the Mustang. Even many who will argue with you when you call the Stang a sports car. :frusty:

THen again, those are the guys who will not buy anything but the v8 which they see as the only true Mustang.

Having a 4/6/8 cylinder will satisfy everyone and give Ford the most sales possible. That's a good thing if the next Mustang sells as many units as possible. Good for its future, development, etc. Anyone pissing on any lower displacement model is just e-flexing.

I really doubt they call it a Mustang ST. These guys know they have a heritage to preserve here. I think they realize Mustang fans don't want to a brand shared with the 1.6/2.0L EB4 tiny Euro-centric Fiesta and Focus hatchbacks. I personally don't care, but I know a lot of people who would be instantly turned off by that.

A revival of the defunct SVO would be most obvious given the similarities in engine and the fact that it already firmly in the Mustang's history. If anything, RS would be a better fit since, as rumors go, the two will share the same engine. Don't see it happening, but just saying..

Read my above post:

Nah, won't be RS.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/ford-line-will-only-ever-feature-one-rs-model

"Our focus now is on the Mustang, but over time there is aways room for RS products. But what is clear is that RS shouldn't be a series, or a car badge that we have in our portfolio all the time. It is an extreme car – something more than ST.

"It is so evocative that I'd be highly surprised if there were not more RS products – plural – in the future, but I would be surprised if there was more than one at the same time."

Isn't the RS badged cars mostly rally inspired anyway and all have AWD? That doesn't fit the profile/segment that the Mustang is in so I doubt we'd ever see a AWD Mustang RS.
