Well, the 10+ wheel was a step in the right direction over the even skinnier '05 version.

So yes, a slightly smaller diameter, with a thicker rim would be nice (the 3 spoke "M" wheel on the e46 BMW is the perfect size and feel, IMHO).

But Mustang MUST have a unique wheel. No parts bin special, or I'll be VERY disappointed :(

GT500 wheel is exactly the same, except for covering. It uses a combo of Alcantara and leather, instead of just straight Alcantara. I've seen my students struggle even more with that wheel, since the leather gets slick.

In fact, I'm wondering if I can put a Fusion wheel on my current Mustang... I'd have it recovered somewhere if I knew it would fit and maintain all the electrical connections and functionality.
I think most of the buttons will work but you need to bring it into a ford dealer to reflash your ACM for the radio buttons to function properly.

You're going to swap out the Boss 302's wheel for the Fusion's? Never heard anyone do that before. The Alcantra and suede combo is way better than the stock GT wheel, the grip is better and the fattened grips at the 2 and 10 o'clock makes for better ergonomics.

Agree that the diameter is what I'd really like to see changed. The GT500/Boss wheel is made to feel smaller by the flattened top and bottom, but it's really the same... I've heard people claim the Grant wheel on the Roush cars are smaller, but they're not. Hopefully as they slim down the car overall, the wheel diameter can shrink a bit too.

I agree with you but think we'll see the same Fusion wheel just touched up for the anniversary. It's unfortunate, but they are standardizing almost everything now.

I think its because Ford hasnt totally embraced the modern sports car thing. Theyre still stuck in retro and have a big skinny retro wheel to go with it. With a more modern and smaller car, the wheel may shrink closer to like the one in the C-Max.

I bet some crazy nut out there has tried to fit a M wheel onto a mustang too.

ABSOFREAKINLUTELY! Nothing smacks of cost cutting bean counting than giving a performance sports car the same steering wheel from a sedan or other non-sporty model. When the 2012 or 2013 had its steering wheel changed from a unique Camaro version to one that was shared with other GM vehicles, the enthusiasts went apeshit... and rightfully so.

I dont think you can fit a BMW wheel onto a Mustang?

It'll have a unique wheel. That's one thing people like quite well on the current car.

Hope your right. Already prolly getting a fusion grill and a mix of fusion and f-150 interior. How's about we try to keep some things exclusive for Mustang, Ford? For for old times sake?

The new one sucks on the Camaro. Gives it such a parts bin sharing feeling. Who wants a sports car that has a minivan's steering wheel.

Really I dont mind shared parts if it's nice and works for the car. The prob is Ford doesnt make any other sports cars and any wheel you're gonna get will come from a sedan or truck which means a larger wheel. We need race inspired wheels. Hopefully we can at least get a nice aftermarket from Roush.

I have a '12 SS and I actually like the new steering wheel design more than the prior dog dish one... the steering wheel controls are so much easier / less cumbersome to use intuitively and the more contemporary shape fits well... but I do agree and it's likely GM's bean counters that decided on shared part bins specifically the airbag cover... instead of the monotonous golden bowtie they should have at least developed/molded a cover with "Camaro" embossed on it. :tsk:

Don't do this, Ford!

The camaro steering wheel doesnt even have "camaro" on it?

Lets hope Ford doesnt make the same mistake or that will be the first mod I do.

:amen:

At least the Mustang's airbag cover (like this in my Boss) doesn't have just the word "Ford" but instead the iconic symbol we all know & instantly recognize. :headbang:

But to somewhat make up for it, at least my 45th's wheel has the anniv logo and theme stitching...

If I see a blue oval on the next mustang steering wheel I will know Ford gave up on Mustang's identity for cost cutting and profits.

Really how much money could it be to put a camaro or a pony on the cover of an air bag. It costs what 300 bucks for an aftermarket Roush steering wheel and they still make a good profit. And they cant pass produce a unique one for a 30k+ car?

Picture this, but with a pony instead of the cat, and with a ring around the same size as the current medallion of the steering wheel. This is what I picture/wish for for the S550 steering wheel:
