A guy at work has a 2015 STI and he just finished replacing the exhaust and putting an E85 tune on it. He said it should be around 400 hp. They are about 300 lbs lighter than a 2015 GT from what I can tell.

So, especially if you don't have gears or from a dig a modded STI could be a handful. If the Scooby is stock you should win other than possibly at launch.

STi's are like a box of chocolate you never know what you are going to get. Those things are easily modded, who knows what it was running.

Dave
That's what the BMW guys say about Mustangs...

Just exhaust and e85 (with tune)? Does exhaust mean down pipe as well? 400 wheel or crank hp? Either way, I think he is being a little optimistic - especially if no down pipe.

I'm not sure exactly was in the kit. I know he's running more boost. I think he said 20 psi? Seems like a lot with no internal changes. I would assume 400 would be crank. If it made that at the wheels it wouldn't even be close in a race vs. a GT.

I agree would be a good roll race for sure. Depending on the gear in the GT could put it out front from the get go or later on. The factory 3.31 with a M6 make the car too long winded

WRX's trap 105+ in the 1/4 mile, also run low 13s.

Test sheet from Car and Driver..

http://media.caranddriver.com/files...w-car-and-driver2015-subaru-wrx-sti-sedan.pdf

Anyway once modded they can be easily close to 400hp+.

That being said they really start to taper off above 100+mph. Look at the 0-140 time of over 29 seconds. Quite a bit slower than a S550 Mustang

Dave
If we are magazine racing, Car and Driver got 113mph in the 1/4 for the 15' GT. The low 13's for the STI is due to the AWD. The STI 5-60 is 6.4 vs 4.9 in the GT...

The stock STI hasn't changed. If anything its gained weight from new goodies.

Honestly, stock for stock, anything but a 0-60 is the GT's territory, even the 0-60 isn't an advantage for the STI its fairly even is both drivers are good.

Not knocking the STI, but it needs more power. Lots of Subie fans agree, that engine hasn't gotten any love in forever.

I 100% agree with that. From a standing start it seems to take forever to get into the power band with the 3.31s.

I had a run in with an sti 2014. Stock i think. No loud mufflers. He was pullin on me, doing drive bys. I was just trying to make it home. I didnt really wanna do it but he waited for me, he was in the middle lane. I was on the fast lane. It was a long straigt away with no other cars. Just as i was about to pass him he dropped the hammer. So i didnt want him to get the wrong impression for our cars so i dropped a gear and walked him. Next thing i know i was in triple digits and he was obviously behind, probably 3 or more cars. I let off but he didnt want to pass me. Embarrassed i guess. I drive a gtpp.

I didn't get a chance to take it that high, since we were headed for traffic on the highway.

I am over here lol'in at some of the comments made about the wrx and sti. (which are two different cars, believe it or not). That would be similar to a comparison between an EB and GT. Sure, they're both Mustangs, but they are very different cars.

Some notes i gathered while reading this thread- the STI is great from a dig and up to about 75mph. After that, they tend to run out of wind. Even modded ones. Just look at STI roll races vs dig races. awd helps out of the hole and they have a ton of torque. The top end is lacking, always has been. (this coming from a former owner)

-The new STI is almost the exact same motor they had in the 04 STI. Ej257. Not much has changed. Making it outdated and still unreliable at high HP levels (400whp+) and you need to start building the internals. The drivetrain (trans) is actually a strong point in these cars. They have been making 600whp+ for years on stock trans.

-It doesnt take much to wake them up. The stock tune on all subarus is rather garbage. Laggy, throttle response is terrible etc. A simple exhaust, dp, intake and tune do wonders. You can be at 330-350whp easily with some E85.

-overall great cars to do many things with. The awd platform in them is among the best. It has been for years. The short gear ratios is what plagues them, for the most part. Thus making them bad for roll racing. So, OP, in your situation, i am not surprised by the outcome. IF you had him on the highway or a rolling start, it would have been a different outcome.

-lastly, theres no way said buddy is going to make 400whp with those bolt on mods and tune he spoke of. MAYBE crank hp, but that would be close. AWD loses a ton of power thru drivetrain at the wheels.
