Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, been silently stalking threads lately but have a serious question. I'm planning on ordering a new mustang possibly this year but I have one nagging concern/question. Does anyone think we are going to see a 2010-2011 repeat, possibly across lineup? I'm undecided on whether I want a base GT or premium ecoboost but either way I don't want to spend $30k for ford to turn around and give either model any significant bump in power. Any thoughts on whether ford is going to turn the dial up or not?
Thanks everyone! :ford:

What kind of answer are you looking for? Yes, the 2016 Mustang will have 100hp more than the 2015? Or, no, the 2016 will be the same car as the 2015 but with minor tweaks to the infotainment system and possible color choices?

Unless Ford goes direct injection I don't think there's any more significant power to wring out of the Coyote since the 2015s already got most of the Boss's better internals. A tune might bump 20 more horses out of it, but I've heard Ford is planning on releasing a warranty-safe performance tune for the 2015s anyway so it would likely you'd have access to that with the current model.

If there is a boost coming, Ford might be waiting for Camaro specs.

Definitely hoping to hear the 2016 will remain the same with only minor tweaks! Either way it'll be a solid performer.

There'll be a new SYNC system in the 2016's, but that's about it. I wouldn't expect to see the Coyote get much above 450 hp any time this life-cycle so as to maintain the distance to the Voodoo engine.

I wonder if there will be power increases to the ecoboost, especially with the Focus RS having more power.

That's why I'm holding off on getting a 15, I want to wait til I hear about the 16. And if not much changes with the 16, I will pull the trigger on a used 15.

The Focus RS is also significantly more expensive than the Mustang Ecoboost.

No. In 2010, everyone knew that the 5.0 was close on the horizon, with many rumors saying 2011 (that people refused to believe). There are no rumors, only speculation, and no new motors on the horizon as was known back then. The 10/11 was a change that is highly unusual.

There might be but its all just in the factory tune. Nothing different about the engine. Nothing a good aftermarket tune wont take care of.

Much more than 435hp will start stepping on the heels of the GT350 (~500hp). Ecoboost won't see much if any jump even with the Focus RS having more power, as the GT oversteps the RS on paper (numbers wise).

GM is pushing 460hp from the Corvette, so there's no way the Camaro will be allowed to have more than 450hp even running the Corvette engine. Coyote would be lucky to see 450-455hp.

I think DI will only be worth maybe 25hp if that. Can anyone recall an engine going from TPI to DI and gaining?

I have heard people claim 35hp but I can't recall an instance where that happened.

If that is true, then the Voodoo can also go DI and see similar gains no?

My advice, if you keep waiting for the next best thing, you will forever be waiting. cause, there is always going to be the '17... and then what is in store for the '18? Then we have to wonder about the '20. next thing you know, its 2065 and you have been waiting for the hundred year car, but the 2066 might be better....

FWIW, n/a motors don't gain as much from D.I as boosted. So maybe 5%.

I don't believe they'll be refreshing engines until they're confident in their eco v6 platform. Looks like the 2015 Lincoln Navigator has the latest version of it and its doing 380 hp (283 kW) @5250 rpm, 460 lb·ft (624 N·m) @2750 rpm.

I have a friend who works over at Ford development but has nothing to do with Mustang. His guess is a refresh 4 years after release (2019) but that guess is as good as anyone's probably.
