2 Way Radios

Any recommendations for a good Walkie-talkie or 2-Way radio line? Our SoCal Cruisers are looking to place a group purchase to utilize on our monthly cruises. Last month we had 40 S550's and this month for our December Toy Drive & Cruise to Palm Springs we are hoping to get 50+. We are wanting to purchase some to allow communication on the highway. Any recommendations on make / model?

Anytime I see a Mustang on the road I follow it as long as I can but they usually think I'm trying to race them and get aggressive Lol..

It's pretty cool that we are able to meet new friends, talk cars and enjoy our S550's like this. Every time I see a mustang on the road I give them a thumps up, slowly more and more are starting to respond :cheers:

Vertex VX-260 series. Parent company is Motorola. I purchase them for about $168.00 each from my Motorola rep. More money than a chain store kids radio but 10 times better. 3 year warranty.

Just about any gmrs radio will go at least 2 miles. Motorola's are my favorite. T460's are nice. You can mix most gmrs radios as long as you can program frequencies.

Thanks, Were just looking for something that we can have about every 5 to 6 cars so we can at least keep the chain of communication open with a group of 40 to 50 cars. I remember the old days of the CB radio :eyebulge:

What do you mean by "remember the old days of the CB radio"?

We all run them in our..... oh wait, that's our Jeeps, not our Mustangs.:doh:

But seriously, you can use FRS or GMRS radios. Just remember, you need a license to use the higher power settings and GMRS channels. Otherwise, you are limited to 1/2 watt and the FRS channels. Also, inside a metal car, you will not get anywhere near the claimed "up to" range.

Np, glad I could help out. I use a Motorola brand but it was provided, I did some research on these and they seem pretty good so I would have gone with them myself.

I thought those radios where in the HAM radio frequencies. Do they not require a license?
