Hi all
i ordered a 2.3 ecoboost around 2 months ago in the uk, will not receive it till March next year. can some one please help me and answer these few questions as the dealer in uk is useless and no help.
my driving style is slow not into speed much, so i was wondering
what the average mpg will be in the uk model for
the 2.3 and the gt as i could swap my order and get a gt in November ?
i was guessing
2.3 eco around 31mpg uk
v8 gt around 20 uk??
i dont have much money so not sure if i can afford to run the gt if the mpg is poor?
also the 2.3 sounds terrible i read, if you change the exhaust from the cat back will it void your warranty?
thanks

Driving slow doesn't always mean better economy.

In the US, the EPA ratings are:
EB = 22/31 with 26 combined
GT = 15/25 with 19 combined

In general, it looks like the GT is 6-7 MPG lower than the EB.

I am not a fan of the sound of the EB, and am not convinced an exhaust change will help much. Regarding warranty, keep in mind that it isn't an all-or-nothing proposition. Changing the exhaust will mean that Ford wouldn't cover any exhaust damage under the warranty, but they'd have a hard time arguing that the exhaust led to damage on the stereo, or poorly fitting body panels. Even the engine would likely still be covered, unless they could show that somehow the exhaust modification led to engine damage.

In general I would not worry about an aftermarket exhaust causing warranty issues.

I've only driven my car 700km sofar, and I'm currently looking at on average 24 mpg in my Ecoboost, but I am driving only short distances and love to sprint away at stoplights and gunning it going on onramps. Highway cruising at constant speed is a lot better though and looks more like 30 mpg. I wouldn't expect to get 31 mpg on average, but that could be just me.

I don't mind the sound of the EB; It's a turbo engine with plenty of power. It has a pretty nice turbo whoosh, but if that isn't your thing ... Just don't expect it to be emulating a v8.

Cruising on the highway I can easily get 33mpg and around town I'm averaging 23.5 at the moment. The ecoboost with a catback will not void your warranty. I personally love the combo of sounds from my exhaust and intake (VROOOM...pshhhhh)

your official mileage ratings are higher than those in the US but that being said I average 24-25 mixed city/highway driving smooth but a brisk pace (ahead of most everyone). Push it harder and your closer to 22, drive easy and you can average high 20's (highway driving touches 30+). It will take breaking in before you get these numbers.

GT knock off about 4mpg's from those numbers.

Ecoboost sound is disappointing. It sounds adequate from behind the wheel but its nothing special. From outside its quiet and generic. When you accelerate you can hear a faint whoosh of the turbo. Exhausts are very difficult to sound decent on this car; I am picky and have found maybe one or two that I liked, but you won't be showing off a good rumble.

The upside to that is the fact that the car is quiet, and the fact is there is no escaping this mustang has a 4 cylinder. It seems Ford took the safe route for noise because a four banger just wont sound good in this car. Im sure you can find a good sounding exhaust but itll take some searching.

as for performance it is fast but the car hides speed VERY well. You will not feel the acceleration, lending a few small thoughts of it not feeling as quick as it actually is. Very easy to hit triple digits and feel like youre doing 65

MPG will be different numbers in the UK as the British gallon is larger than the American gallon.

The ratios should be the same however.

Only 6-7? That's a couple thousand dollars over the life of ownership. Not including paying lower taxes and lower initial price

I'd get the eco manual if I were you... I just know what British petrol prices are like compared to here in the states.. Also in the States many people drive auto due to convenience and endless stop signs. If you drive an auto in the UK... especially an auto Mustang all your mates will laugh at you (I drive an auto.. But I'm in the states).
I don't know why the numbers are different for manual and auto in the States vs UK. But over here we have a lot of stop signs... If your driving in the suburbs there's one every block. Which means a full stop, getting up to second gear and then a a full stop... There's a lot of that, it's bad on gas. In England there's just less of that as the cities and towns aren't setup in the same grid system. It's more linear roads. Also there are a lot of roundabouts (traffic circles) where you only have to slow a little, you don't come to a full stop. Obviously on the motorway it's a wash between the two, but around town we burn more gas in America. Maybe the manual is more efficient just due to the way things are setup in one country vs the other. I know all my relatives back in the UK (even my brother with a Nissan 350Z) seem to end up with way better gas mileage than I do.. Although in the end I pay way less due to gas prices.

I think it may be because the EU spec cars have different maximum gear ratios from the base US cars. (And they also differ between manual and auto)

I've seen 35mpg on the highway but usually putting around town I don't see more than 22mpg on average.
