I am looking at new wheels. I prefer 18 or 19's (max), and I don't want any "poking" out from the body. Many people prefer a flush setup, but I prefer my wheels to stay tucked just a tad.
My question is, can I go 18x9.5 with 255/45/18 and 40mm offset? How about 43 or 45mm offset? Will they rub on the suspension?
I have been digging/researching quite a bit, and I think 40mm is good, 43mm might be okay, but 45mm will be very close.
Your experienced input is appreciated!

This is the website I use for figuring that kind of stuff out. Once you know your factory wheel specs, you can figure out exactly what you need. For instance on the S550 mustangs, something that sticks out 25mm further in the front will be flush with the fender and 20mm in the rear will be the same. I used spacers on my stock wheels before I got my new wheels, so I know this works perfectly. I had 8.5" wide factory wheels with 42.5mm offset, for reference.

Thank you for your reply, and for noting your experience. I looked at that site. I didn't interpret to know where the specific car's suspension was relative the wheel/hub interface.

Oh, and I am going to use 255/45/18 on my 18x9 Forgestar D5's.

Nice! I didn't know very many people still used 18's. Those D5's are nice wheels!

With a 9.5 front wheel:
  • stock-like inset with as much room from the wheel face to the fender as the stock PP1 9" wheels would be ~ET49 (if it clears the struts).
  • If you want as much clearance to the struts as the stock 9" PP1 wheel, that would be ET36
  • Fully flush like the common 10"ET35 wheels would be ~ET22.
Sounds like you're looking for something in between those. I wouldn't go much higher ET number than 36, but you have some room to play there. 40 should be fine, and its still conservative compared to most "flush" setups.

I don't think a lot of people do actually. I just don't like the 20s. My car came with 19s but I want a drag look with taller/wider rear tire, so I went to 18s. I had this same setup on a 2006 Mustang and it looked good to me. Thought I would try it on this one.

So, based on other posts on this forum, a 9.5" performance pack (PP) rear wheel with a 275 tire will fit on the front when using a 5mm spacer, but will rub the strut without the spacer. Considering the 52.5mm offset of that PP rear wheel, the spacer makes an effective offset of 47.5mm. So, 18x9.5 SHOULD fit, even with a relatively large 45mm offset, and assuming caliper clearance.
