Hey everyone, I’m new to the mustang scene and recently started doing some mods to my GT. Unfortunately yesterday I went to shift into 2nd gear and it wouldn’t go into gear at all. It just felt like it was hitting a wall, no grinding or anything and after about the 3rd try It finally went into gear and drove fine. I Tried recreating the problem and experienced it again a few times, happens while downshifting mostly, but has happened while sitting still, car both running and off and happens intermittently. When the car is off and I recreate the issue, it feels like something is blocking me from going into gear and then eventually moves out of the way. I am worried that it’s the trans forks issues that some owners experience, and I am modified, I’m running a few bolt on, some suspension mods, and a Steeda street shifter that I installed the beginning of this summer. Any advice or ideas on what it would be? Any help would be appreciated.

The intermittent nature of your 'problem' points to your Steeda shifter. Either not adjusted properly (most likely), or something wrong with it. You need to mention if you started having issues right after installation, or after how long. At any rate, the first thing I'd do is put back the stock one, and check if you have the same issue. If not, then you have your answer :). You'll have to get in there regardless. Good luck.

No I didn’t have issues right away. I installed at the beginning of summer and then the issue just happened starting yesterday. And yeah I’m gonna crawl underneath it and see if the shifter mount bushing is bad but other than that I’ll probably tear everything down again.

It’s not your Steeda. I have an MGW and it does this. It’s simply the mt82 lockout. Happens when downshifting from 3rd to second typically at higher speeds when trying to go to a 40 roll for example and sometimes when I drive hard. Feels like a mushy wall and the only way to make it go into 2nd when that occurs is for me to slow down below 20 go to 1st and then second. I have other friends that have this issue. And I personally have created a thread on it. Common issue not shifter related. Annoying

Thanks for the replies, managed to find some time to pull things apart, turns out the reverse screw was loose in the reverse lockout collar, so I’m only assuming that when id try to put the car into 2nd sometimes that it thought I was going into reverse. So far I took it on a quick test drive and everything is shifting smooth as butter again!
