Checked out several current Mustangs at SF autoshow.

I liked they have inside door panels and central tunnel cover soft versus hard plastic in my 17. That's about the only major difference I spotted on the inside. Visually these look identical to pre 18, but becomes obvious once you start touching them. These could be a DIY project to replace/upgrade by the way.

Front view from inside of the car - the hood is out of the way. Some will like improved forward visibility, but I preffer 17- hood. It is such a piece of character that I'd like to see and very often get complements from passengers.

Like a lot of others I disliked outside front view of 18+ . Mustangs at autoshow looked cool to me though. Not sure why. Maybe because they were all dark colored, clean, polished and nicely positioned, but I did not feel bad about this design.

And manual shifter seemed smoother to me, but that was in a standing car, so might be subjective.

Anyways, I decided it was time for some refresh for my '17 and pulled a trigger on power pack 2. The car is approaching end of 3yr warranty and I might just install it DIY.

TL/DR: OP went to auto show, OP sat in newer Mustangs than his, OP thought his car was better than all of them.

Said everyone who ever compared their car to another.

TL/DR . Typical defensive 18+ owner response.

I did say I liked interior upgrades and surprisingly liked the front end.

I'm not defensive. My car is a car, and that's it.

I'm just saying any time anyone makes a large purchase they are going to justify it every chance they get. People become attached to their car and will always be biased to what they own, even if that bias is subliminal.

Wasn't saying you weren't being honest, so no need to get confrontational.

Good observations.

I also came from a 2016 into a 2018... but out of total curiosity, is this the first time you have been up close to a 2018+ to note or see the changes?

The 2018+ also drive a lot better than the 2015-2017’s - in fact there were quite a few threads on here from folks who went from a 2015-2017 into a new 2018 (at the time) also confirming the same about the suspension characteristics and handling.... not to mention that the interior also was quieter than previous model years.

There’s actually a few variances between the 2015-2017’s to the 2018+ other than just visuals.

Oh yea - the 2018+ hoods don’t lift, float, flutter or shake when approaching 65+mph.... :)

There’s always going to be the 2015-2017 owners vs the 2018+ owners... they will all have pros/cons and a cult following... kind of like the 1979-1986 vs the 1987-1993 crowds... LOL.

Me personally, I like the 2015-2017’s just as much as the 2018+, not really biased at all - just stating the differences I noted when first going from a 2016 into a 2018. I really like the factory hood design of the 2015-2017 - wish the aftermarket would come up with a similar design for the 2018+.

Yes, it was the only time I came close to 18+ . Yes I 'm aware it is slightly better in many ways than pre 18. But there always will be something better every N months. I'm not chasing the ghost. I got the car I feel comfortable with long term.

For me, it all comes down to cost per improvement factor.

Yes, the 2018+ cars are "better", but that better comes at a cost premium ($15K-$20K) that I am not willing to pay.

My 2016 GT is an S550 Mustang. The 2018+ cars are also an S550 Mustang.
