Why is it that some tuners say you need 47lb injectors but others say you're fine with the stock injectors? Is it the duty cycle?

the duty cycle. Depends on what mods you have if you need to upgrade. From what I've read most tuners say you need 47# if you upgrade to the '18 intake and want to run E85 but are fine if using the stock intake. I went ahead and upgraded as a flex tune is in the future + I got a used set for $185.00

I was told by a reputable and well-known tuner to go with 47s with the stock '15-'17 intake manifold and a CAI to run a flex fuel tune. Injector duty cycle is the reason.

I ran E85 on my stock 15 manifold and JLT CAI with stock injectors (Lund FF tune) and was fine.

That said I am upgrading to 18 manifold so I bought LU47 injectors in preparation for E85 use with it.

I guess I should rephrase my question a bit. Say on a completely stock car, why do some tuners want bigger injectors yet other tuners say you're fine with the stock injectors?

Because while it'll run fine, you are stretching the duty cycle of the injectors to their limits. Some tuners don't want to take the risk of a problem being caused there, others are more comfortable. I'm running 47 lb with my 18 manifold setup on 93, both to give me the hardware that's capable of going E85 instantly, but also to give some more cushion on fueling at high revs.

Some tuners are comfortable with the injector duty cycle close to being maxed out, others aren't. Simple as that.

As it was explained to me, the stock '15-'17 setup can run close to 80% duty cycle running E85. IIRC, you generally don't want to exceed 85% duty cycle or you run the risk of erratic operation or even a stuck injector.

Just because you can run stock injectors doesn't mean it's a great idea, even though it's possible. It's all about the safety factor.
