TORQUE SETTINGS!!!

Guys worries me some of you seem to be unsure about the torque settings as such please ensure the following:

Wheel spacer nuts (nuts that hold wheel spacer to hub): 90-95lb/ft
Wheels to spacer: As per the manual which should be around 150lb/ft

Exceeding 100lb/ft on the nuts that hold the spacer to the hub could actually crack and damage the spacer, over-tightening can be very bad.

Just wanted to mention this.

You guys who drive your cars hard on street, autocross or even go on track days, the spacers holding up OK for you?

+1

Most of you likely knew this but I was naive and went 150 for both and the spacers started to crack around the outer wall where the nuts are.

Edit: Mine were not AM but just sharing my experience

Hey Gibbo - Thanks so much for taking the time to have this posted. It's been mentioned/asked in this thread quite a few times what the proper setting are and it's very beneficial.

Spacers should be back online and ready to rock shortly!

Cheers.

Looking to order these and wondering if anyone else can speak to additional rock chips as mentioned above?

Since the wheels are sticking out farther your going to want to do one of two things.

Go to a vinyl place and have them make a clear vinyl cover behind the front wheel, in front of the back wheel (quarter panel) and behind the back wheel.

Or

Get mudflaps

Or both which is what I did.

Hey guys, sorry didn't see questions. I was getting rock chips on the front part of the rear quarter panels from the front wheels. I've removed mine, which ticks me off because it definitely looks better with them on. Unfortunately, my town has a bad habit of laying crushed rock as road treatment without sealing, so maybe I'm a bit of an anomaly. I avoid those roads until they get better, but still difficult at times.

Good idea on vinyl or clear rock protection... that will likely be on my next Spring list as the car is about to have minimal use over next 5 months. Or, I will just put a set of wheels on that have better offset.

A couple of questions[?]:

For the GTPP wheel folks who are willing to either, 1) cut the OEM studs, or 2) modify their wheels - have you considered just going to a longer stud and using a "no-stud" style spacer?

Seems like that would even be more reliable/safer since it eliminates that additional failure point.

Along those lines, has anyone done a measurement to determine the thickest non-stud spacer (i.e., that uses the OEM studs) that can be used? I'd assume about 5mm would be zero worries, approaching 10mm might start shorting the available threads?

I'm thinking even a tiny amount of additional offset would be decent, and this would be safe, easy, hassle free.

Our wheels are hubcentric so there's only so much space you can move the wheels out before you lose that contact surface and then your wheel-to-hub balance will be gone.

So what happens if you over torque the wheels?
You're going to stretch the studs to the point of failure and it will break or the nut will strip. Whatever is the weaker of the two will happen first. Considering torque is the amount of stretch a stud/bolt can take to achieve the desired clamping force.

Hey, guys. Quick question. I'm getting 20x10" tires with a square set-up and am looking to throw on spacers at the same time. Ideally, I want my wheels just under if not a little outside the wheel well (maybe 1/4" over at most). I was thinking 3/16" spacers for the front and 5/16" spacers for the back. Would this get me where I want to go? I've been looking at pictures all day trying to visualize it. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.
