Torrie worked on my E30 tune with me yesterday. It was so hot that it became obvious that I need an intercooler, which will be within the next week or so. That being said...

Today it was cloudy, around 80*, 95IAT in the dash, and on and off drizzle. Road was a little wet but dry enough that I wanted to see what the tune was like 0-60.

4.9 seconds. Previous best was 5.2 in much cooler air and dry pavement.

Broke the 5 second barrier with t/c on, leaving off idle (no boost). I rolled onto the throttle and it rocketed. Second hit and T/C intervened but the car just kept going.

I cannot wait until I can get this thing cooling down and for my tires to come in next week. This tune is destroying these stock 235's! Once I get the 275's out back I will be leaving on some boost and expect to see a good drop in time.

This car will be primarily a auto-x machine but this little quest is so much fun!

As the story goes, Torrie is the man.

Tune, downpipe, intercooler, really good tires - is all you should need to break 12s.

Beyond that, add an intake, catback, colder range spark plugs and catch can and you'll be pretty bolted out

I was able to get 12.8 with only a tune.

Would a thermostat hold me over till I get my intercooler
The thermostat isn't going to help your charge air temps. I don't think a thermostat is necessary unless you plan on doing repeated runs at the dragstrip or tracking it. I'd save it for the cooler

Ran this today. 77 Ambient, 84 IAT.

I got some decent wheel hop on the launch which I think is what dropped a tenth in my 0-30.

The big story is that despite this tenth I dropped .3 by not blowing the tires off in 1st and the 1-2 shift.

I think I can eek out another .1-.2 by playing with launch RPM.

They made a world of difference! I can only imagine what DR or slicks would do. I may get a set of fat & skinnies and find out.
