Hi all,

Long time lurker and first time poster on the boards here. First let me say thanks to the community here for all the great info that is shared. I have found it extremely helpful in deciding to chase a GT350. Special shout out to Bossing for all the detailed posts and especially the "Bossing's GT350 Journey" thread with all the track videos. They really helped convince me that the GT350 was the perfect showroom stock track car and weekend toy.

So a little automotive background on me. My first car was a '67 Mustang 390 4 speed coupe. Total rust bucket that I spent years restoring myself because I didn't have the money to pay anyone else to do the work. :headbonk: Great learning experience though :D Next was an '88 LX 5.0, then a '91 SHO and a '94 SHO followed by a '99 SVT Cobra. I was really excited about the Cobra (finally a Mustang with IRS!), but ultimately I have to say it was a let down from a quality and ergonomics standpoint. So I took a break from Ford and then came a long succession of Audis including my current DD, an '07 RS4. I never really considered another Mustang (wasn't a huge fan of the retro 2005 design) until the '12/13 Boss 302 got me thinking, but I still didn't pull the trigger. When the S550 came out I thought they nailed the design and the rumors of the GT350 with a 5.2 FPC got my full attention. (A little bit of trivia is the 4.2L in the RS4 blazed the trail of factory V8s with 8250 RPM redline and 100hp/liter like the Voodoo)

In January I made some calls and tried to track down a 2016 Track Pack, but of course they were tough to find since most dealer orders were Tech Packs and markups were crazy. Ultimately decided to look for a 2017 allocation and called a bunch of local dealers to put my name on the list. On April 12th I called one of those dealers and asked if they had any word on allocations for 2017. They said they hadn't heard anything, but the next day said they had an allocation for one with an end of summer delivery. They had my deposit for a Lightning Blue, no stripes, Electronics the same day. A month later I had a VIN and scheduled build date of 6/13. I couldn't believe I lucked out with such an early build date. After all the stories of 9 month waits I might have my car in less than 3! On 6/29 I got word that my car was at the local rail yard. Wow, 2 weeks from build date! I might have for July 4th! But dealer says no ETA on when it would get on a transport to the dealer. The next day my dealer calls and says "It's here, but...there's a problem”

And now we come to the title of the thread.

Dealer goes on to explain that the transport driver didn't secure one of the tie downs and the metal hook on the strap bounced off the road and dinged and chipped the rear quarter panel, trunk lid and window. I was crushed. Knowing how painful it would be, I told him I had to come see it anyway since I still hadn't seen a Mustang in Lightning Blue, let alone a GT350. So off I went and was able to snap the photos below with my cell phone. Dealer didn't even mention attempting to fix. Said he would send it back and get another one ordered. I was concerned he might not get another allocation, but I wanted it to be perfect so decided to let him try. Called me the next day and said he got another allocation and would push for priority. My original order had priority 01 which explains the early build date, but not sure what kind of date I'll get this time around. Hopefully can find out next week. I did like Lightning Blue in person so not changing my order.

So in the end, dealer came through and it just means I'll have to wait a little longer which probably still won't be as bad as the wait many of you had so not complaining. But frustrating to come so close to getting it.

First of all very sorry to see this. Sucks is an understatement. I commend you for taking it so well though.

Since it looks like it is only body damage. Can't they just send it back to the factory to get fixed and then get it back to you? Then give you an extended warranty for the trouble?

I'm assuming they are going to do some version of this anyway and sell it as a new car eventually.

I'm not sure how they would handle this at the factory, but since the dealer is willing to get me a new one I'm going that route. If it was just the trunk lid or the replaceable part wouldn't be so bad, but the quarter panel would have to be filled or cut out and most of the car re-sprayed.

I don't know if Ford has them, but BMW has a couple of VPC locations that fix body work that is damaged in transit. They are very good and it looks factory fresh when they are done.

They could just replace the rear quarter as well. Any way, was just a thought to get you in a GT350 much quicker and with a little bonus on top for the trouble.

I appreciate the thought. I figure if the dealer didn't suggest fixing it and was willing to fight for a new order I'd take it. I never thought it would come in so fast anyway. plus I still need to expand my garage to make space for it :-)

Well good luck, hope it gets resolved fairly quickly.

Wouldn't be surprised if they just fix it, and send it to auction. Ford would probably make more money that way.

It'll most likely be repaired and be sold as-new at some dealership, if this wasn't a domestically built car where the dealer doesn't really have the readily means to fix this per factory levels, you probably would've never even known this happened.

Imported cars for instance are allowed a certain percent of damage to repair before having to disclose it to the customer, BMW for instance has facilities at the Port of Entry dedicated to correcting such issues incurred during transit.

In Ga if there is more then $500 in paint work it has to be disclosed to the buying public.
